universal health care
Ok, for those that want free health care, free housing and free college money, why not just join the military? You will be providing a service for the Country and in return you get your college paid for, you get free housing while in the military and you get free health care.

Re: universal health care
It is not free my friend. It is all earned with blood, sweat, and tears. (and a tiny paycheck)

Re: universal health care
Yeah, but you get free health care after too. And since when did it become wrong to work hard for something?
I see nothing wrong with a system like that. Give your country 4 years and get some extras in return. You don't want any of that, then doing join and don't complain. You want free health care and college then join.

Re: universal health care
Ahhh, but you nailed on what people seem to forget about this country...
It became wrong when certain elemants said it was wrong... you should just be getting this stuff because its what Europe and Canada is doing.

Re: universal health care
I was talking about the free health care and free college not volunteering vs drafted.
and I know many people that sign up to be in the medical career field... they signed up to save lives, instead of having no choice to save them.

Re: universal health care
Joining the Army to save lives. An interesting concept. Who was it that said the primary purpose of the Army is to kill the enemy and destroy their stuff?
I wouldn't become a life guard if I didn't like water. But I can see that the Military offers many benefits. |

Re: universal health care
That is the overal purpose of the military yes... buit there are job specifics... like being a doctor in the military... he isn't killing the enemy... he will actually try and save the enemy if he can.
That statement "to kill the enemy and brake their stuff" is just a statement that I always found funny... so anti-pc

Re: universal health care
So actually if you want universal healthcare, you just need to be a captured enemy of the US army.
But if you're a poor American... Soon a terrorist defence (if ever given a trial) will be "Just needed a filling", or "Had a bad hip". |

Re: universal health care
Flipper, we all know there isn't really such a thing a free health care. Well, maybe you don't, but then I have pretty low expectations where you're concerned. The issue about expanding access to health care in the U.S. and making it affordable has nothing to do with making it "free". If you read either Obama's or McCain's health care proposals, you should realize that both candidates are in fact advocating systems based on private insurance with some assistance from tax dollars.
Your remarks about "free" medical care for military personnel are even more wrong headed. Should we expect these men and women to be ready to put their lives on the line at a moment's notice and fail to provide them with basic services? Should a soldier sent from Ft. Hood to Seoul, Korea to defend our national interests have to worry about whether his wife and family can get essential medical care?

Re: universal health care
Quick question..... maybe.
Why is all the focus of health care getting out of reach for many Americans aimed directly at the insurance providers? When are the hospitals and medical professionals going to be blamed, also? IMHO the medical profession has become far too lucrative. Regardless of either candidate's proposal for health coverage, they have stopped short of the real problem. SABL |

Re: universal health care
I know several doctors personally ........ that profession is no longer a rich mans "existance"
the insurance carriers on the other hand ...... now thats a horse of a diff color and the drug makers too ........... you dont see doctors running one million dollar adds on TV to drum more business I would not want to be a doctor ............... way too many hours of work / cost & risk too ........... the governement cant run anything ............. how many times do they have to demonstrate that ? the will spend $100.00 for every dollar that really enters the health care pool ........ you forget about all the hands that have to be fed before it hits the "table"

Re: universal health care
Granted, many doctors are not the problem. I did forget the drug companies... good point on your part. The health care industry has become corrupt and not all blame can be placed on the ins industry.... it is only a part of the problem and not the main picture.

Re: universal health care
If you recall at the second debate [sic] a woman asked the candidates if they though health care should be a commodity or was it a right? I thought it hit the nail on the head of the issue: if its a commodity, then insurance companies, pharma, hospitals, and yes, doctors have the right to make as much money off our illnesses as they can. However, if its a right, then those rules have to be changed.
Tomatoes = commodity Free speech = right
