Ban sought on on newly popular, and legal, hallucinogenic drug

Quote:
Almost everywhere in America, the drug taken by the teen, known as Salvia divinorum, is legal, cheap, even available on eBay.
Now, a bill is making its way through the Legislature to make the plant illegal in Massachusetts.

Re: Ban sought on on newly popular, and legal, hallucinogenic drug

From what I understand it's not addictive physically or secondary to a euphoric effect, nor is it toxic.

So why are they banning it? So the next time your kid experiments with it you can have them arrested? Or maybe so the next time they get it it will be laced with something worse?

Forcing people to start buying the stuff from illicit drug dealers sounds like a pretty stupid idea to me.

Re: Ban sought on on newly popular, and legal, hallucinogenic drug

Salvia divinorum has already been outlawed in Illinois. That law passed quite quietly.

Quote:
Salvia divinorum is a legal plant in most countries.
SALVIA EXPERIENCES: WHAT TO EXPECT
Salvia experiences range in intensity from subtle to extremely powerful. This holds true for chewed leaves, smoked leaves, and for oral tinctures, such as "Sage Goddess Emerald Essence®." The strength of the effects will depend on how much you take, the way you take it, and your individual body chemistry.

Salvia experiences differ from those produced by other visionary drugs or herbs, and Salvia has many advantages:

* You cannot take a fatal overdose of Salvia leaves.
* Salvia is not habit forming.
* Salvia is legal in most countries.
* Its effects are brief in duration, so you quickly return to normal.
* Salvia seldom produces adverse side-effects or hangover.
