I'm at an impase
These WBC (westburo baptist church) people, I mean... uggg its hard to put to words on how much I hate them, but really, is what they are doing protected under the constitution?
To Marine’s Father, Suit Is More Than Money http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/02/us...0ab&ei=5087%0A I mean a jury of their peers found them guilty, and I hate them so much, but obviously my personal feelings don't mean much against the constitution. BUT could they be over stepping the freedoms by protesting a private function of someone who died?

Re: I'm at an impase
I dare them to ever get within driveable distance from me. I will be blunt and I will be harmful. I think that some kids need to get together 10-11 or so march up to one of their protests and shot the living hell out of them. And I mean pelt them and pelt them and you know if you accidentally kick one or two thats ok.

Re: I'm at an impase
As repulsive and as wacky as their "message" is - it is protected speech. And I agree with their lawyer "...Anyone who wants to go out and protest should be very afraid now.”
The irony is that the Government would have to protect these <TWIBAT>s against our young Nik and his ilk.

Re: I'm at an impase
I want to say good for the courts for awarding the win to the father. The picketing was in very poor taste, and irregardless of your feelings on the matter, you should at least having some <TWIBAT>ing respect for the dead.
This wasn't a criminal case, it was a civil case. There doesn't need to be a crime committed to be sued for a tort such as emotional distress or something else. There has been a large amount written about tort law and the constitution, the first amendment in particular. Ever wonder why you can be sued for libel or slander? You were just exercising your First Amendment rights, remember? You can't get ARRESTED for libel, but you sure as hell can get sued for it. EDIT: OK, the more I read about these <TWIBATS> the more I want to stab them all in the face. How can you hold a sign saying this and be smiling?

Re: I'm at an impase
Which part? That their message that "soldiers dieing in Iraq is god's punishment for homosexuals" is wacko? Or that it is protected speech? If its the former, I can't be the only one who thinks it's <TWIBAT>. (The soldiers are dieing because Bush sent them there and because Congress is derelict in not getting them out. )
And if its the later, I'm shocked that more conservatives aren't standing up for the 1st Amendment (not really shocked because the Constitution is just an inconvenience anyway).

Re: I'm at an impase
Um, immedtiae withdraw from Iraq would create a billion different issues.
I think poeple who think that about Iraq fail to understand the ploticial, and military failures such a decision would cause. Your forgetting, that place is like a bomb, and the big red button is Iraq, we done pressed the button and we are holding it down to keep it from blowing itself and the rest of the region to all high hell. |

Re: I'm at an impase
What is the point in a religious faith if it is not fundamental? By definition it underpins your life.
Now what you have that faith in is another matter. And that applies for what consequences your faith brings. For example if you believe that flying a plane into a building is Allah's will, you will invoke a consequence like the war on terror. That is not to judge either but, for what its worth I think both are very flawed. If you believe that God kills soldiers because of homosexuality in America, then you have to ask yourself 'was AIDS not a good enough weapon?' Only joking! But if you have such views then you become acountable for your actions and their repercussions. Even if you accept the right of these people to hold their opinions, for this message to have been given at funerals was at best a poor judgement and at worse callous in the extreme. And as such, bankrupting the church seems a small price to pay. Infact to some extent if the consequences of their callous attacks is that Nik et al. kick 7 bells out of them, then I would struggle to see a problem with that. |
