Kurd rebels kill 9 Turk soldiers: military sources

TUNCELI, Turkey (Reuters) - Nine Turkish soldiers were killed overnight in a clash with Kurdish rebels near the Iraqi border, military sources said on Sunday, in an attack that will increase pressure on Turkey to send troops into Iraq.

The soldiers were the first Turkish casualties since the Ankara parliament on Wednesday authorized troops to conduct cross-border incursions into northern Iraq to hunt down rebels using the region as a base.

The times is reporting 12 and Reuters is now say the toll has reached 16. I hope they keep civilian casualties and damage to a minimum, but these people have a right to protect themselves from this kind of hostility.

I wonder if Iraq could go for the record for most simultaneously invaded country!

It doesn't say much for the present law and order there. And if there can be a breeding ground for Kurdish terrorists...
So does anyone still think that deposing Saddam was a good way to reduce the terrorist threat to America?
