Who had health insurance 100 years ago ? Who had health insurance 200 years ago ? Who had health insurance 300 years ago ? ... .. . Were they crying 300 years ago about health insurance ? Hell, I didn't have health insurance coverage when I was a child, whoop-de-doo. Besides, Bush didn't veto it because he wanted to get rid of it, he vetoed because the dems were trying to expand it further. Last edited by cstr20cstr; 10-03-2007 at 06:54 PM. |

Re: Bush vetoes CHIP funding
I'd much prefer that my taxes go towards keeping a child healthy rather than towards killing people.

Re: Bush vetoes CHIP funding
there you go confusing the ignorant masses with inflammatory obfuscation. This is NOT socialized medicine. This is government funded health care insurance. The capitalist insurance companies will make plenty of money off of this.
And what's so wrong with socialized medicine? The military seems to do just fine with it.

Re: Bush vetoes CHIP funding
I personally don't want socialized heathcare, I have access to the VA now but feel there are more in need than I right now, Like our wounded troops. Ask them, they will tell you that the current system is lacking.

![]() ![]() ![]() I spent 6 years in the Navy, trust me, military "health care" is a joke. I also spent 4 years in Italy, with their "wonderful" socialized medicine. In Italy, most of their hospitals are about 20 years behind in technology, and the people have little say in where they go for doctors, the government does it for them. Then there's the medical drugs the people have to pay for, after paying for them through their back-breaking taxes that were supposed to pay for the drugs to begin with ! If America wants to start cutting health care costs and insurance, they can help by limiting these multi-million dollar frivolous lawsuits. Yea, occasionally there's straight forward mistakes doctors make that a patient should be able to sue for a couple million (and get most of the money themselves, not 40% for lawyer "fees"). But for the most part, lawyers are more than happy to bleed a hospital, doctor, and nurse for any bogus crap they can dig up with their "expert" "unbiased" doctor advisors. And then of course, those multi-million dollar lawsuits get passed onto the patients through higher health care and insurance costs. |

Re: Bush vetoes CHIP funding
Cstr, all your arguments about why we shouldn't be concerned about the SCHIPS program and children's healthcare are just nonsense. Certainly, there wasn't healthcare insurance 300 years ago. There wasn't indoor plumbing either. So, where do you wee-wee?
Yes, Congress wants to expand coverage, because the majority of Americans and their representatives in both the House and Senate feel that we owe it to our children (who are, after all, the future of our nation) to provide decent healthcare for them, even if their parents can't do it on their own. Spreading the risk is what the whole principle of insurance is about. Do you consider auto insurance, or home owner's insurance "Socialism"? Even if you do, I bet you have both. Bush's proposal of a $5 billion increase in the program is ludicrous. That won't even maintain the program at its current level, which has seen repeated cuts during his administration as funding for the program has been diverted to "worthier" areas such as tax cuts for the wealthy, and the first war in U.S. history to be financed by reducing taxes.

I keep commenting about 300 years ago, because people are spoiled in today's society compared to back then. Now days, thanks to liberals for the most part, people think they're "entitled" to what other people have earned. |

Re: Bush vetoes CHIP funding
I think this shows where the president's priorities are. I'd rather see money going to children's health care than the war in Iraq. In my opinion, there's no excuse why children should be left uninsured. I never thought I'd say this, but I agree with Harry Reid's statement that it was a "heartless veto." Hopefully a compromise will be reached and something like this can pass or override his veto.

Re: Bush vetoes CHIP funding
Forget all this insurance mess, Just give each family an extra deduction allowance per child to cover the average cost of medial care for that year. That way the famly can spend it on the doctor of their choice. done ... simple

Re: Bush vetoes CHIP funding
My favorite DEM tagline is "and people will get the same health care choices as congress"
What is that exactly?
