I think my country should import Chinese judges instead of Chinese products.

Re: China sentences corrupt government official to death

BEIJING, July 10 (Reuters) - China executed a former drug and food safety chief on Tuesday for corruption in an unusually swift sentence which will serve as a warning amid a series of health scandals that have stained the "made in China" brand.

If the judicial system worked like that, here in the US, I don't know where it would stop.

Re: China sentences corrupt government official to death

Definitely adds new meaning to being the fall guy. On the one hand, China wants the profits and revenues of industry, but on the other hand, they won't invest time and money in educating the peasants at the bottom of the supply chain who are responsible for so much of the contamination, or make an effective attempt at inspection and regulation. I mean, don't you think that they are essentially executing these guys for following unofficial (or semi-official) State policies?

The question is, is it china or is the manufacturers that outsource to china that is the problem. US manufacturers are moving there because of the lack of regulations. Maybe the US should start punishing companies that move their manufacturing to countries that lack proper regulations. But this would put walmart out of business...

Re: China sentences corrupt government official to death

Here's a story from the Washington Post about sources of melamine contamination, and how many Chinese officials looked the other way while it was happening.

Re: China sentences corrupt government official to death

How quickly you imperialist yanks forget your own history. If you open your eyes you'll see 100 years of similar behavior all in the name of progress. How dare you tell the poor illiterate peasants that they cannot move to the city, get a job making some trite consumer product, earn a few yuan, and have a chicken in every pot. So what if they cut a few corners, despoil a few million acres, kill a few hundred people...progress must go on...

History?? I think these things come under the heading of Current Affairs.

Regression (repression) in the name of progress....there is always a price to be paid.
