101 Ways To Help Save The Planet

Yes there will be drawbacks to all of them but I think it would be interesting to see lots of ideas on how to help save the planet.

1. Rich governments of the world should buy up rain forests from the likes of Brazil and Indonesia and protect them from illegal and excessive logging.

How 'bout rich governments spend their money conserving land within their own boarders instead of eliminating jobs in third world countries.

2. Strengthen the UN

Anyone got any solutions that don't involve giving rich power hungry politicians more power?

Drew is correct - the planet will be just fine. It's the humans that are of concern.

For most people, the single biggest energy use is heating and cooling their home. (At least in western countries.) So insulating the attic is about the single best thing every person can do.

Next comes transportation - including flying (planes are very energy intensive.) Moving up from 20 mpg to 30 mpg won't have much of an effect. But if everyone did, then you'd have something. Cutting out one or two cross country plane rides each (or equivalent) would also make a small dent.

Individually there's only so much you can do. Collectively we can do a lot.

Re: 101 Ways To Help Save The Planet

OK, I don't believe in global warming, but I hate polluting the Earth (which I believe is God's).

So I have taken reasonable steps to cut down on my emissions and to save energy.

1. I have a 36MPG car and 45 MPG SUV.
2. CFL bulbs in my house
3. I added insulation to my attic and to some dead space next to a couple overhangs
4. I don't drive as much as I used to, I carpool if I can.
5. I use blankets to bundle up in the winter at night.
6. New furnace, water heater, and AC.

I can't afford some of the bigger things like new windows or solar panels, but hopefully I am doing a little part to help the environment.

I'm not sure if the mpg has anything to do with global warming, the reason that people make that change is because of gas prices.
