May 8, 2007 · Authorities have arrested six men described as Islamic militants and charged them with plotting an attack on the Fort Dix, N.J. Army base, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.

The six were arrested trying to buy automatic weapons from undercover agents, said Michael Drewniak, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey.

"They were planning an attack on Fort Dix in which they would kill as many soldiers as possible," he said.

Drewniak, speaking in Newark, said four of the men were born in the former Yugoslavia and two others were from Jordan and Turkey. Five of the accused lived in Cherry Hill, 10 miles east of Philadelphia and 20 miles from Fort Dix.

After 9/11, some democrats thought we should have invaded Saudi Arabia since most of the 19 hijackers were from there. (See Fahrenheit 9/11 for proof.... if Michael Moore says it's true, then it is)

They'd of failed miserably. They'd of killed the first few guards alarms would of been sounded and they'd of had the entire military on their *** within about 60 seconds.

Thing is they wouldn't attempt to talk they'd fire.

Saw a guy accidentally run the gate this morning, and he wasn't even being aggressive, nor speeding. Just forgot to spot you just saw every thing go up alarm was even sounded within the 5 seconds that this all happened.

Attacking a military base is a very good way easy way to die.

I don't know. These guys were clearly hardened combat veterans who only asked their neighborhood video store for a copy of "How to Use an Automatic Weapon" because they had slept a couple of times since training.

THose guys would of granted prob killed a few, but their attack would of had little effect.

If anything the military would rather get attacked then a civilian force.

Talking about it in school today, we all laughed at the notion.

We know how quick they'd of been filled with lead.

It wouldn't of tooken long.

I bet you with anything on every military installation theres snipers gaurding as well (wouldn't take much to toss a guy with a .5 cal sniper rifle in the woods facing the the gate) to help gaurd it.

Let's see, they practiced in the woods with paint ball guns, they filmed their "training", and took the file to a store for conversion to disk. Real scary professionals were this bunch of buffoons...

But let's say they were actually hardened terrorists out to attack Ft. Dix: anybody notice who stopped them? Was it the Army, with its budget of $250T a year? No, it was the FBI and probably local and state police forces.

As the British and some of us have known for years (and the US Gov’t just now may be learning – if anyone is listening – doubtful!), stopping terror is for the police and intelligence apparatus - not the Army. Armies conquer territory. It’s what they’re good at. Asking them to do otherwise is folly.

And bry and Drew, after 9-11 I don’t recall anyone, leftist or otherwise, suggesting an invasion of SA. Not many even objected to going into Afghanistan – and do I need to mention “dead or alive”? It was linking invading Iraq to 9-11 that remains Bush’s albatross.

You are right it wasn't the army because posse comitatus prevents the military from doing law enforcment.

Its not the armies job...

The reason the FBI caught them is because its the FBIs job.

The Army defends, and fights for the nation. It doesn't partol your local streets. THats the FBI, ploice force job.

Those guys had no idea what they were doing, intending on attacking a military base with 6 of them and Ak 47s? Um I rarely see a gate gaurd not armed with a M-16 rifle. They better take all gaurds out in one hit is all I gotta say.

My guess is that the figures there was woods around the gate and they could sneak in that way.

My point is that there have been any number of "terrorist" plots in recent years that have been trumpetted by the media and this administration only for them to turn out to be so much fluff. I can't help but think this is another.

And Drew, I will say that Iraq has made us less secure - even though this plot was stopped. The damage done to America's position as a world leader and bastion of hope is, I feel, irreversible.

Add to that the good will those $billions could have bought if they'd been more wisely invested.

I can't help but feel we are witness to the beginning of the end of the American Century.

I agree, we had debated this yesterday if Iraq was in deed curving terrioism. I was asked about the coincidence of why so many terriost plots are getting fouled and stop down.

Because we created more by making more poeple in the world mad by invading Iraq, and marching across the globe thinking its ours therefore making poeple wanting to attack us. So we have more of an opportunity to catch terriosit plots.

So what you are saying is that the U.S. is the problem??? The war on terror is not vs. any one nation, it is vs. an extreme hatred of our way of life which is pervasive in fundamentalist Islam. Sadly, those extremists try to take control of a country's government and if they cannot, they form terrorist groups to disrupt it instead.
