Don't Buy Gas in May - Please ....

NO GAS .. In May 2007.

In April, 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of
gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

In May 2007 all Internet users are asked to not go to a gas
station and pump gas in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over
$3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the Internet
network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take

$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies
pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May
15th and lets try to put a dent in the middle eastern oil industry for
at least one day.

''Don't pump gas in May"! It sure can't hurt!

The hostages are back and demand is down from last year. Why still $3.++? If this keeps up I'll be in support of regulation.

Re: Don't Buy Gas on May 15th - Please ....

This is really just email clutter - but I left it here to spur a discussion of oil and politics.

The US gets only about 25% of our oil from the Middle East. Europe is much more dependent; although Russian supplies may be gaining (I don't have time this morning to do the research). We get the rest from domestic sources, Mexico, Canada and yes, that bastion of neo-conservatism - Venezuela. So clearly not buying gas on one day is unlikely to have much impact on the ME.

If you recall last year as gasoline climbed over $3 /gal and approached $4.00 in some places, how loud the protests were. But then they dropped and the oil companies were not such greedy <TWIBAT> bad after all. Now it’s back up there and not much is being said about gouging or record profits. Ghee, you think it could have been the plan all along? The days of $3/gal gas are here for good. And maybe that’s not such a bad thing. It hurts the factory worker driving the 82 Dodge more than the Lawyer driving the BMW but over all it might begin the push to higher efficiency…

I love it when technology advances only to keep pace. High speed trains are looking very good right now.

I love all of the reasons that we get why prices are so high. They raise them simply because they can. Oil in ANWAR may not even make a big difference

I agree, in that I think there's price fixing and price gouging going on.
Something needs to be done about it soon.

People are so gullible... if people don't buy gasoline one day, they'll buy it another. The demand is relatively inelastic.

Exactly what I was thinking.

The only way to make a statement is to not drive your car and ride a bike. Then the prices will go down but only because demand went down.

Socialize the Oil Industry, like Venezuala did to Telecomm.

Send a world-wide wake-up call to these multinationals AND their "conservative" stooges.

Hey, how about instead of having a 'national don't buy gas day', we have a 'national don't drive day'.

Now who's asking a lot? :P

Re: Don't Buy Gas on May 15th - Please ....

I think alot of this is oil companies price gouging, and they getting by with it because people like Bush and all is not saying anything or attempting to stop them.

I think the U.S. also needs to set limits on cars now and manufactures included to where they are required to get a certain mileage per gallon, like 20-25 since I see alot of cars these days that are just flat out gas guzzlers. I mean aside from oil companies being the rip off here, theirs needs to be limits on how gas and oil is used. Both of those problems solved would come out to cheaper gas prices in the end, alot of cheaper.

this was pretty big on my college campus, making the school paper..... the only way a boycott like this makes sense is if you don't drive for an extended period of time... and that's asking for a lifestyle change from America, not just a token feel-good effort from people who want to feel like they are accomplishing something.

Re: Don't Buy Gas on May 15th - Please ....

Plus 1 day I doubt it helped any, heck after it happened if nothing else, it went up twice as much. I think gas was like 2.85 a gallon on avg and then after that Tuesday it went to 2.99 and over 3.00

Someone needs to do something about these oil companies, this is where the problem is and I just dont believe its lack of oil and refineries having problems which is causing this.

In Greece it's at an all-time high: just over one euro per litre.
