Canada won't meet Kyoto emission targets
Canada's government acknowledged Thursday it will not meet its Kyoto Protocol targets and announced a new environmental plan with a less ambitious goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Under the 1997 Kyoto accord on climate change, the former Liberal government committed to a 6 percent cut in greenhouse emissions from 1990 levels by 2012. But the country's emissions are now 30 percent above 1990 levels. The new goal of a national environmental initiative announced Thursday is to reduce the level of current emissions 20 percent by 2020. That means Canada will not meet its obligations under the Kyoto Protocol — which requires 35 industrialized countries to cut emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases that act like a greenhouse, trapping heat in the atmosphere and contributing to global warming http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...d/4753837.html ___________________________________________ This is why we never signed the darn thing I imagine (US).

Re: Canada won't meet Kyoto emission targets
Of course, we all know that the greenhouse effect is just a myth made up by liberals to get us to turn to communism.

Re: Canada won't meet Kyoto emission targets
Kyoto is just a bad treat period, nothing to do with the reality of warming. It's just not feasible for our economy.

The debate is wether humans are causing it, and if they are, to what extent. Leftists are trying to capitalize on the global warming debate because they know they can use it to strike back at U.S. "right-wing" industrial capitalism. I personally would like to see the oil industry diminish, and gas gussling cars replaced by electric cars. I'd like to see coal plants replaced with nuclear fusion plants (once they discover how to make fusion plants). This would reduce pollution and dependancy on foreign oil. |

Re: Canada won't meet Kyoto emission targets
I was being sarcastic, because I know there are people that actually delusional enough to deny the existence of global warming, no matter what the cause.
And I really don't think the leftists are trying to blame it on anyone- they're just clearly much more interested in doing something about it than the republican party is. After all, didn't most of the Bush family's wealth come from oil? And electric cars aren't the answer... at least not yet. The electricity would need to come from somewhere, and that somewhere is likely to be the burning of a fossil fuel in one way or another. What we really need to do is switch to a biofuel that can be farmed efficiently, like using switchgrass or algae to prouce vegetable oil for Biodiesel.
