Five-day work week will double Congress's workload

Republican congressmen outraged at the heartless, inhumane, and brutal five-day work week proposed by Democrats .
Wait , what !

On the other hand: The Government that governs least governs best. I say give them 7 days a week off - cowards one and all.

Hehe yeah 7 days off for the Democrats good plan! But I do agree that a smaller government is better.

you mean to tell me that the elected officials that we have voted for are going to have to work like the rest of us? how dare we expect them to "earn" their money.

I say that we agree totally on this one!

Well, I think you have that wrong. Even if they work five days a week as proposed, they will never work the hours that you and I work. You also have another thing wrong, they won't "earn" their money, but they will "spend" your money.

Normally, a full days work for them is an hour or so in the morning and after their three hour lunch, an hour or so in the afternoon, if they so choose to show up at all that day.

Just remember, just because congress is in session five days a week, DOES NOT mean they will show up every day for work. Just the way it is. They don't show up half the time, but manage, to show up for those important votes in case there is a camera there.

I would agree, but a CEO tends to make lots of money, they get don't get paid to work long hours, they get paid for their ideas. Also something needs to be said that Congressmen spend lots of time with their constituents.

And you say they will spend our money as if it was a bad thing... but that is Congress' biggest duty, to spend our money.

I don't think my Congressman needs to spend 40 hours per weeks in the Capitol, I think that simply the idea that they are technically always on standby, and bear a huge responsability, they deserve more pay than they get, and certainly should not be voting every day.

I have had 4 meetings with my Congressman, and one where I actually got to talk with him in person, one on one, and I got to learn alot from him in those 15 minutes. He told me he spends about 15 hours a week just doing paperwork and and signing documents. He goes back and forth to Washington twice every week, I'd imagine that is probably about 1.5 hours by plane, each way. We are at 21 hours, and haven't factored in committee meetings, votes, or any other important matters, which certainly take lots of time.

What the Democrats are doing is a ploy to say the Republicans really don't care about Americans, just their pocket books. Which I am convinced isn't true. I don't blame them... it's working out right... I don't expect much in terms of morals or honesty from liberal Democrats anyways. Just look at John "Squid" Kerry, who by the way served in Vietnam, releasing a press statement after George Bush's Presidential address on 9/11 saying he was wrong to politicize it. Now, the press release was fine, it's his opinion. Here's the problem, John Kerry, who by the way served in Vietnam, was at a five star restaurant in Washington eating squid, and he never saw the press conference. Here's the kicker, the press release was played before John Kerry, who by the way served in Vietnam, even lefted the restaurant. Now how did John Kerry, who by the way served in Vietnam release a statement, which supposedly came from him when he never got to see the speech? Pure DNC politics, and manufacturing statements proving their dishonesty, and poor honesty. But John Kerry served in Vietnam, he should be excused.

hey tumbleweeds, I was being rather sarcastic w/ my comments. don't get me wrong I don't trust them Dem or Rep. my dad has always said "congress is in session. Pray that nothing happens". In another comment, you know that the opposite of progress is congress. I am sure there are congressmen that are doing their job. But, unfortunately they are few and far between.
