Global warming is hyped up... surprised?

http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=77195

The "pro" side has Al Gore, Prince Charles, and Bono... we have science and scientists... And you say Hollywood has no influence on public opinion. And the critics get shut up.

Here is the great Prince Charles, scientist extraordinaire: http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/a...les/article.do

It's a HOAX: http://www.washtimes.com/national/20...2922-6839r.htm

And apparently, despite the fact the Miles O'Brien is a bitterly staunch supporter, he doesn't care to hear the facts.

http://newsbusters.org/stories/cnn_a...ls_asleep.html

I personally think that its good that the Senate is investigating it, it shows how the public has been grossly misinformed.

The article you cite is hardly an unbiased report. In it Professor Deming uses vague unnamed references to prove his point.

Quote:
a reporter for National Public Radio… a major researcher in the area of climate change…
He also never says global warming does not exist. All he says is that the media has not covered it critically – wow, big news there.

And this from the Home page of the organization that posted his article:

Quote:
And in 2005, the NCPA published a first-of-its-kind study arguing that the appropriate response to the potential negative impacts posed by global warming is focused adaptation rather than attempts to constrain energy use.
Source

Yeah, this is the group I’d like setting policy. No problem, we’ll all just live underground.

Notice also the portion of the quote I highlighted in bold. Isn’t that an admission that, in fact, there is a possibility that global warming is real? If it’s not even real why develop a response? To avoid being burned by fire breathing dragons, we’ll all just wear asbestos underwear.

You can’t have it both ways.

My bottom line regarding global warming is this: regardless of whether temperatures are rising and if they are, regardless of whether it has an anthropologic or natural cause: IT IS IDIOTIC TO CONTINUE TO SPEW OUR TOXIC WASTE PRODUCTS INTO THE ATMOSPHERE.

Agreed, but it is also disingenuious to ignore the theory of cyclical activity to bolster an agenda.

I want to see a movie which says global warming doesn't exist. But I guess that all those scientists in Hollywood know better. I don't think I am out of line when I say that it would be nice to see some movies that don't have a far left agenda. I know that there are a few each year that come out and actually have a right leaning leaning message, but they are few and far between.

The facts are very far from conclusive, but saying that we must totally change our lifestyles over an unconfirmed, and very sketchy theory would be the greatest mistake our generation will make. There is so much evidence that this is a cyclical thing as Bry said, why are the people who are vocal to their cause so lob-sided?

And I don't want crazy weather and hurricanes anymore than you. And if I even slightly believed in theory I would be the first to get a hybrid etc etc. And given this years terribly mild (terrible for Al Gore anyway) hurricane season, maybe we should rethink this whole thing.

Scientists can't forecast the weather within 5 degrees a week in advance, but they can somehow forecast hundreds of years ahead?

Quite different.

You are talking about using foresight into hundreds of years, and speculation into the past thousands.

I'm just saying, we can't foresee with any accuracy 10 days ahead, much less 100 days, far less 100 years.

Your point about Polio would be valid in the context of speaking about medicine, but I think that is important if you wish to attain any level of relevancy, to compare apples to apples. But if the Farmer's Almanac predicts next year to be sunny and 231F, let me know and I will definatly get a hybrid.

bleh..typical profit mongers who want license to continue raping the environment...

money, the root of all evil and perhaps the death of our planet as we know it...is the destruction of the economy and the world as we know it worth ignoring the evidence so that some rich cats can buy another island or two in the pacific?, not to this person...

predicting the daily temperature is surely different than projecting massive increases in average global temperature...

since you're in America take the time to watch the History Channel's show Little Ice Age, Big Chill...that should explain your hurricane theory...and considering you've clearly stated you are no scientist, you really have no place in just repeating other's poorly founded theories...

if you really are an economics student, then you should have already been taught that the best businessmen need no education as the seat of their pants is better than any of the fuzzy math used in such endeavors...I mean really, one has to use one's judgement to make up a risk value to plug into equations...The_Point being that the seat of my educated pants says somethings not right with the world right now, and even if it is cylclical (which I truly doubt) every little bit of help from humans can delay or mitigate the consequences...to top it off, using less fossil fuels (or using them in a cleaner fashion) will allow future generations to have use of said finite resources and/or a cleaner planet...abuse of the evnironment and the humans who live in it has gone on for far too long...there is NO excuse other than greed, and if you've truly read Jesus' words you should know what he would think about that, considering he died on the cross so we could all equally share in God's grace...and on that note, anybody who would make that sacrifice would surely not condone Paul's ( who was Saul, who had an epileptic fit on the road to Damascus) acceptance of slavery and the thougt that that was one's lot in life...roflmao...he was obviously one of the major false prophets Jesus warned us of...

ummm...yeah....I did get a tad off topic there, now didn't I?...must be that 48 hour week with 15 lbs. of tools on my hips...obviously beat more than just my body eh?

@bry...your concept is actually a rather supported argument...i.e. this planet is hell, and its a testing ground for admittance into the afterlife...there are times I definitely espouse that concept...

Global warming may be over-hyped, but for the first time in human history we have at least the potential (and I think the reality) to influence the world's climate. The cost of reducing Greenhouse emissions is far less than the potential cost of ignoring the problem.

Global warming??????Huh??????Whats That?????? Some kind of fantasy?

Where I live we have not had much snow for the last 3 or 4 years. Sure looked like things were changing alright. Coastal BC weather was becoming more like California, OH Joy....

This Year...Shock !!! God forbid...In late November we had 2 ft. of snow in a period of 4 days. The Number of vehicles that ended up in the ditch, and/or abanded on the streets gave testimony, that there were those who thought our country had become warmer.

Oh Well...It appears we will always have those among us who think we are able to control the environment we live in just as though we were creators of this world.

I suspect there is a dollar to be made somewhere by some of those who would like to get us to believe that we should change our life style as opposed to enjoying what there is to enjoy in this life we have been given.

There's more than a dollar. We have already been convinced that going "green" will somehow avert the next ice age, or is that the world being burned up?

It's all about government control.

Gov't says global warming is happening -> Taxes corporations, and makes us change our lifestyle. Also taxes the people.

It's sad, just like lambs to the slaughter, people give up their rights "for the greater good." Go to some liberal city (Seattle, Vancouver, San Francisco) and it is zombie like!

Good one. We could kill all the cows, but then we would be doing Vishnu a disgrace... Bry, this just one of those thing conservatives are just wrong on on. No arguing, no using facts, logic or common sense, just wrong.

Well, We have to admit the weather this winter has been wierd, Minnesota had to cancel Ice Fishing Competitions just about everywhere because it was impossible to sustain the Ice. I have friends in Southern Russia on the River Don near the tip of the Sea of Azov, in 2005 they sent me picures of 2 feet of snow covering everything, this year they did not even have snow maybe now there have some. That is wierd, also maybe not related, but heating oil market is losing money because of the warmest season in years. BUT I WILL NEVER DRIVE A HYBRID, I DRIVE MUSCLE CARS NOT SOCCER MOM SUVs AND I WONT BE GIVING THEM UP WITH OUT A GUN BATTLE, ALSO WHY DID WE LET THE government FORCE EVERYONE TO HAVE TO HAVE HDTVs BY THE YEAR 2008? Charlie Sheen's Global Warming Masterpiece "The Arrival" is only off by putting the Aliens deep in Mexico somewhere, I would say, more like a small piece of land on the East Coast between Baltimore MD and Alexandria VA, anyone else agree? One more small note, what Hollywood Movie Star has the guts to turn down a personal invitation to the White House to Meet a US President? Rep. or Dem? Makes you wonder, one more thing, check out Speed Channel's Barret Jackson Auto Auctions, no one is giving up their cars
