State completes first test run of border cameras
EL PASO — The state has concluded its first test run of a camera system along the Mexican border designed to beam live Internet images so citizens can report suspicious activity.
The Texas Border Watch program, a $5 million project announced this year by Gov. Rick Perry, should be fully operational next year, a Perry spokesman said. http://www.statesman.com/news/conten...svc=7&cxcat=52

I heard someone say, "if you believe in a virtual fence so much, why not protect the White House with virtual fences, and protect the President with virtual guards."
The idea is useless, unless of course as Bryan said, we can get a camera with a little extra kick.

![]() We'll never be able to efficiently stop them from coming over, but we can respond when they do. Unless you have auto cannons, then you can set it and forget it.

A fence works better than no fence, and it is supposed to be double layer, with guard posts every mile... if they get over #1, they will kind of be stuck between them, and once they get over the first, they would get picked up.

Well at that point stopping them from getting in is costing more than they drain from the economy; and when keeping them out starts to cost more than letting them in then it becomes apparent that the goal has changed from saving money to simple discrimination against Latinos.

THEY ARE COMING HERE ILLEGALLY.
It is not discrimination. It is stopping people from breaking the law. No one said that the only reason was to save the economy... What about American construction workers that can't find a job anymore? Screw 'em right? Don't take this as an insult. You are starting to sound like Jesse Jackson claiming discrimination every time your argument is obviously the losing one. This is an honest question, because I really cannot fathom why: Why does the left oppose curbing illegal immigration? To me illegal means one thing, I can understand the notion that you don't want them all deported, but why not at least stop them from coming in? I really don't get it at all. Perhaps people view everything as a lose? That is why they want to leave Iraq and not build a fence because they see failure only instead of viewing the whole thing? I really don't get this. It would be racial discrimination to put the country at a net loss just to keep Mexicans out while still allowing Asians and Europeans to get in on their loopholes. What reason do we have to stop them from seeking a better life unless it's hurting us?
that's how I feel about it anyways.

If they are getting in without using the INS, I would love to know. Bonus: illegal immigration brings with it poverty. http://www.heritage.org/Research/Immigration/SR9.cfm Last edited by jeffdrummer; 12-06-2006 at 05:39 PM. |

Jeff,
Hilary has to respond to you as a constituent. You should lace some of your angst into it!!
