And another, non-pop culture account. (Calling Bush stupid is popular, and thus news shows can use that to boost ratings)
http://web.archive.org/web/200008152...0/item7250.asp

--I scored a 1360 on the SAT (670 Verbal, 590 Math), 2100 if you include Writing (740) [I missed one question and part credit on the essay...]-- So this ranks me higher than Bush , who went to Yale while I was rejected at Princeton (Plus I had a 4.3 GPA and a long-ish resume) I think the fact that he was the son of the president, who went to Yale as well, had a lot to do with that.

Bush is an idiot for his politics/policies/associates not because he butchers the language.

"One sign of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result."

Actually I tend to think that he's being led around by the nose - I don't believe he's sharp enough to think these things up independently. But if you were going to exhibit a puppet wouldn't you pick one who could express a coherent thought?

And don't fret about Yale. He survived with a "Gentlemans C"....meaning he had too much $ or connections to be flucked out.

Makes you wonder what the man takes seriously. If it's not learning, and it's not military service the how the hell did this guy become president if not solely on his Dady's name and a GOP nod.

Taking his job seriously is the only one of those things I consider important to running the office (the others are just character indicators), but without a base such as military service or education it doesn't matter how serious he takes the job he's still ill equipped to handle it.

i don't care if he's popular or not, and i don't care if he's stupid or not. i look at all the things other presidents did, and i look at all bush has done, and the whole thing makes me sad.

he's not the best person for the job, he's just the best person out of all who ran for office.

which also makes me sick. was bush the best person his party had to offer, probably not. and what about his opponents? it's almost as if they picked the worst person they had, just to make sure they wouldn't win.

i think that our only salvation is going to be for us to have better candidates to choose from in the future. if all the people that try out for the job aren't really fit for it, what do we do? we HAVE to choose someone.

if all we ever have to choose from is garbage, then the best we can do is choose the least smelly of the garbage.

reminds me of something my grandmother said to me.
"if you are going to compare yourself to a pile of **** then you shouldn't bother comparing, since anything is better than a pile of **** ."

Hi,

Man, your grandmother must have been one customer that set you on the straight and narrow, huh? She sounds like a real jewel that most people could relate to. Sorry for being off topic, but I just had to say that.

well, i was getting terrible grades, and just generally being a dork in school, and she was griping at me, and i said "hey, at least i'm out hanging with the gangs and robbing people and doing drugs."

at which point, the previously posted statement about comparing ones self to a pile of poo came into play.

needless to say, it's a quality statement that i will never forget.

and yes, out of all my family, she's the only one i would actually consider reasonable and level minded.

no, he tends to just not know what he's talking about.

kind of happens when you don't read the speech that was written for you before you actually try to speak it publicly.

here's my favorite, although, i think it was a case of "accidental admission"

Translation: One of the hardest parts of my job is to get Americans to see the connection of Iraq to the war on terror.

Maybe he just need thicker smoke and a larger mirror.

Actually, it's hard for him because he won't admit that there was no connection before he invaded and occupied Iraq. That its his policies that have spawned the few terrorists that are actually there. It would be admitting a mistake and gosh we can't have that now can we?

Oh, Bush is far from stupid, but his judgement and performance as President has been about as bad as it can get. As a Texan, I wonder what happened to the George W. Bush who was our governor. Personally, I think that to become President, he made some unholy alliances with groups that don't reflect his personal views. Paying off those debts is going to cost my grandchildren in a big way.

As Governor of Texas he really tried for a bi-partisan consensus on his policies. As President... OK, if we are all through laughing here, lets move on.

Bush's biggest failing as President has been his inablility to admit error. He views any change in direction or an admission of a mistake as personal liability. If Rumsfeld's tactics in Iraq fail, well, he can't be replaced or that would imply the President had made an error of judgement in his appointment. God forbid.

Staying the course if the pain is worth the gain is one thing, but pursuing policies that are clearly failing is hubris.

I disagree that George Bush was stupid. President Reagan said "I knew little other than Cs in college." So booksmarts does not have any correlation with being a good President. I think George Bush made one HUGE mistakem that he is now trying to fix. Tying the Iraq war to the War on Terror. He thought he would find something in Iraq, but he didn't. He kept up the guise, and tried to say that we are saving ourselves here by fighting them there. The problem was he had lost his credibility about the war, so no one was buying it, (although it likely is true). Anyways, I don't want to ramble, hopefully we have better choices like someone said.

I really hope that the dems don't send Hillary Clinton, she would lose so easily. She is more of a flip-flopper than Kerry.
