No one's paying attention but we're all paying.

Paying out the wazoo.

Lost in the pressing news of the day; hidden behind flames in the Middle East and Floyd Landis being a dope, and other high level topics worthy of our time like concerns over germs on communal yoga mats, is this tidbit:

Quote:
Big Oil is producing Big Earnings for the second quarter, led by Exxon Mobil’s 36% profit rise for the period, a massive $10.4 billion profit for the period. Along with Exxon, Royal Dutch Shell posted a 36% rise today, with profit of $6.31 billion...
Anyone up for a nice pleasant Sunday drive?

The majority of people are like sheep. Oil for instance. Pump prices are
rising, are people getting mad, sure. How much of a increase will it take
to get really fed up, I would venture to guess around $4.00 a gal. I believe
it will reach at least that. Why are prices so high, oil futures are traded
daily in the stock market,,#1 problem. Why hasnt our government stepped
in? Reason #1 our president and his buddies, whom he owes favors to
are all heavily vested in oil. I would love to look into Bushs and Dicks stock
portfolio. never happen.
#2. Letting the gas prices skyrocket scares the sheep. There led to
believe that there is a shortage. "theres no shortage" The powers that
be then say we must drill more, explore more here in the USA, to make
up for this shortage. The sheep figures that has to be the thing to do
in order to bring prices down, and make up for a shortage. "which there
is not"
They already started drilling off the north slope in Alaska, which was
protected for along time. It seems big oil will start drilling more in the
gulf of mexico, right off of floridas coast, It will happen because the sheep
are scared. What the sheep dont understand is that most all of our oil
here in the U.S. is sent over seas. Sold to the highest bidder. Alot of
you sheep will disagree with me because you must follow party lines, the
time has come to think for yourself, and not be herded like f--ing sheep.

Dont get me started on the Iraq war, There oil production has never
halted, since day one of the war, who is profiting from that? Why has
the American people been footing billions of dollars for this quagmire.
Again the sheep got scared, remember the quote. "Dont let the smoking
gun be a mushroom cloud in the U.S."
Im sorry for ranting,, 10 years from now with this war, and others still
raging, there will be others,,you sheep can still blame Bill Clinton....
Stupid sheep,,,,,

This is not the first time big oil has pulled this stunt. The last time Jimmy Carter put windfall profits taxes on the big oil companies sucking in huge profits.

Anyone want to venture a guess when this admin will enact the windfalls profit tax ??????

in a time when the vast majority of corporations are struggling to stay alive Exxon and company are making more profit then ever in the history of the US; why is this occuring ???? doesnt anyone ever ask ?

well events in the middle-east prevent the perpetude of price fluctuation from procrastinating and reacting to market trends outside of their basis.

Or they can so they will if you don't speak corporate *******.

If gas reaches $3.50/gal for regular 87 unleaded then I'm gonna start raising some hell in any way I can. Anyone with me here?

We need a TSF bipartisan lobbying union. We agree on what needs to be done and write mass letters to our senators and congressmen.

You know what, they benefit directly from the war, so why not put on a windfall tax to help pay for it too? I think they're a bunch of scumbags. Blood for oil? I sure hope not.

I'd like to see a report of how many exxon assets were lost during both Gulf Wars, my guess is somewhere close to $0.

Here is a good question: How would a windfall tax help bring down gas prices?

Have the windfall tax pay the excise tax on gas. Never happen. The
question is a tough question. Its easy to say tax the bastards, but the
taxation would have to be substantial. Never happen. Biggest problem is
that oil is traded on the open market. I would like to see domestic oil
being sold at home, not exported. period. Then have some sort of
governing type of agency monitor gouging. We can ramble till the cows
come home, nuttin going to change. Politics hurts my brain.

Extra pressure on them. When I make more money, I'm taxed more heavily. When income surpasses the GDP of some other nations then it's high time something is done.

Who do you people think would pay the windfall taxes? That's right, you'd pay at the pump.

OPEC and oil prices

I don't know if it'll be of any use for you to realize that OPEC controls less than half of the world's oil production!

Here's the list of Oil producing countries: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Oil_Trading_Nations
I took this list, fiddled a bit in MS Excel, and came up with the following table (OPEC members are the nations written in italics, all production numbers are millions of barrels per day):

"Everything flows, nothing stands still." Heraclitus of Ephesus (ca.535BC-475BC)
