2008

A side discussion developed in another thread about the 2008 election.

I see it as a no win situation for either side. To get nominated, you have to pander to the base. For the Republicans, you have to appeal to the neo-conservative Christian right. The democrats need to win over the liberal left. In this process, candidates already make promise to their side, and then they need to present themselves as moderate to the middle. When this happens, I think it hurts the liberal candidates more.

I think Joe Leiberman, Dick Gephart or Evan Byah would make an OK president. The dems would never nominate these guys, they are to moderate. Likewise, Giulianni, or McCain could win, but they will have a hard time winning me (the far right) over.

My System

I think its too early to think about 2008.

If the Demo's win a majority in either house, its all over for Bush. And I don't mean impeachment - though that's possible as more and more hidden tactics crawl out from under Rove's rocks. It's basically all over anyway as he has no positions left that he's pushing and Congress is pretty much ignoring him now anyway.

If the Demo's can't make any inroads at this mid-term election, it pretty much means they are washed up as the second party. A new party would be needed for 2008. Where that would come from I don't know. Maybe, just maybe, from the very folks bry mentioned...

Uh oh, I think the mods are agreeing again.

I have often said that a McCain/Leiberman third party (I would call it the moderate party) ticket could well win the White House. Of course, politicians aren't bold enough to stick their political necks out like that.

As I mention in another thread my support right now going too Joe Biden. I think he got a good chance of becoming the dems nomination if he can beat out Hillary Clinton (I really don’t like that women). So I can only hope the dems not idiots and pick Hillary as there nomination and instead give Joe Biden a fair shot at getting it.

I think McCain a good man but he have become a puppet of the republican party. His uncondition support of bush through this whole time is sickening. To suck up to bush after bush put out such hateful commercials against him during the 2000 election is just beyound me. Maybe that what you need to do to win but I could never do it my self. to betway my own beliefs and give support to things I might not believe. just could not do it and I would like to see a president nomination for stand up and fight for what they believe.

Gore was equally as bad in the 2000 election. His issue his whole carrer been the enviroment an issue more important then terrorism but as soon as he ran for the only time in his life you dont hear him mention the enviroment.

I just wish people would say exactly what they believe and all the BS to end.

Dems also need to try to stop appealing to people that will never vote for you. If the person believes the world 6000 year old don’t waste your time trying to get him to vote for you it never going to happen. It is the 52% of Americans that don’t vote that the Dems need to target that where they can make a lot of new votes.

You know he supports affirmative action don't you? If you're still rooting for him I'll give him my vote if he makes it out of the primary, promise.
