AOL caught censoring user's Email

On Thursday MoveOn.org (a petition group against AOL's possible plans to create an email tax), sent out its normal optin newsletter to its members, only all users with an aol.com email address had this message BLOCKED by AOL, WITHOUT even sending a message back with failure of delivery.

MoveOn.org sent out a notice to their subscribers about the events:

"AOL was caught red-handed censoring email, and now the public knows their credibility is gone," said Adam Green, a spokesperson for MoveOn.org Civic Action.

"Think about it. AOL's first reaction was to tell reporters that the DearAOL.com Coalition were spammers, and their second reaction was to unblock our emails. They can't both be true - why would AOL unblock the email of spammers? AOL was caught censoring email, then they were caught lying about our coalition, and in the end AOL proved they cannot be trusted to preserve the free and open Internet."

If by some off chance you are still using AOL please switch.

None of the people I talk to will use it...I've gotten it off a few so far, and the rest didn't use it to begin with.

After a call from AOL this has reportedly been fixed. They were blocking any email that linked the site.

I get plenty of people who come in here who have AOHELL at home but their PC is busted. I ask why they use it, they say it's "good."

I have a nice sun catcher made from their crappy "free" cd's. Too bad though, I hate moveon more than AOL.

Either this story is eroneous or they did this to another group as well. It was on an episode of dl.tv and they were talking about with the guy who is the head of the foundation they did it to, but it wasn't moveon.org...

If they thought it was OK to do it to one organization, why would they not think it OK to do it to many? When you turn over a rock, all kinds of slimy creature are likely to crawl out.

i love my mac. apple's ichat works great and is simple. but i did have tillian on my pc when i used it for chating. but that was becasue i didn't want more than one chat app open at a time, and i have buddies on msn too.

reasons like those are why I Don't use AOL. I have in the way back past, but NEVER in a million years again! AOL to the internet general public is what Chernobyl is to the citizens in the neighboring towns. An infectious, internet danger zone!

When AOL first announced that it included anti-virus software the first thing that popped into my head was, "Hey, they're including an effective uninstaller!"
