If someone thinks Geek Squad will help them then they ARE stupid. Those guys don't know squat.

And I read this article a while ago. You've gotta be faster!

lol forcifer you are not getting a ride in their car you are getting your PC fixed lol.
I heard many different stories where BBGS guys sold new parts after long hrs of onsite work. If you have a problem with your sound ( onboard one ) BB will change your motherboard and hard drive with a fresh installation. Or will work long hrs to clean-up your system from spyware-virus invasion then will recommend you to replace your harddrive because it is corrupted. Well. Think about a doctor who is trimming you or replacing your organs everytime you see him... BBGS is that doctor because they dont know any better. You cant have good business ethics if you dont know the business you are running. Eventually you will cheat. Like BBGS. Even best buy name wont be enough for them soon.

To call people stupid ? I think it is rude. Not every one knows everything...

local to me, there is a business called "geeks a knockin" and i have only heard good things about them.

in their commercial, they mention how you shouldn't bother with "those other guys". i wonder if bbgs is who they mean.

but, from the 8 people i know who have had geeks a knockin work on their machine, all 8 were completely satisfied.

not only that, but the old hardware was left with the customer, in the boxes from the new hardware, and in 3 instances, i checked the old hardware, and it was in fact dead. (in the other instances the customer had already thrown it away or opted to have them recycle it)

i think any time a repair guy is willing to leave the dead parts with the customer that it shows they are positive that part was dead, and anyone is welcome to check it. that in my mind is excellent form.

the prices weren't as good as a friend would give, but they were way lower than the prices of the major repair shops.

often i wonder why they don't use vans, with a complete little workshop in the back. then they could pull up in the driveway, and take your pc back out to the van, and fix it up.

some of the customers i talked to were a little taken back by having to see the technician tear into it right there in their home, but, some felt it showed complete honesty.

but all in all, there was no real complaints about the service from geeks a knockin.

I undercut their prices. They totally suck.

My prices beat the snot out almost every business here in town. That's easy for me because it's just a side thing. The portable lab is a good idea, but would suck here in Texas. You don't want to be anywhere outside in the summer. When I go on a call for a "I don't know what's wrong! Just come and fix it!" problem I take as much as I can along so I can do the repair on the spot. I really should start stocking up on OEM parts like NICs and stuff. Drives are also handy to keep on hand.

it's not hard to get a good pure supply of ac power in a van.

also, ebhackus, you could just leave the ac on in the van. make sure it has actual insulation in the walls, and not just space filled with air, and you'd have no problems from heat.

@40 You've been there too I take it? "Yes, it seems you had both a BCAC error and an error 18."

@Volt A good possibility with a nice van. But with the cost of gas climbing it'd be hard to keep that AC running.

Speaking of GS, I know a friend who was charged $100 to get their CPU Heatsink cleaned out from dust. WOW.

wow...can anyone say ripoff? You can buy a can of compressed air for like $5 and probably do a better job than the GS did. I mean for that price, you could just replace the heatsink with a new one every few weeks.
