Microsoft has cornered the market in computer software for a reason, and as much as i hate to admit it, it is because they make good software (Bugs aside). Windows specifically is a highly functional line of operating systems that allow novice users to work with ease and allow experienced (not highly experienced) users to make their computer function how they'd like it to. Since it is so popular it is compatible with pretty much all software. With Microsoft around we are assured we live in the greatest age on earth
that being said, onto why I hate microsoft (unimportant storyline)--------------------------------------------------- I personally am a avid programming hobbyist, I learned to write in c++ and java quite proficiently. And if you are a good programmer after learning all the concepts, you find that you can write pretty much anything if you know the concepts, so i feel i conquered applications and applets. I decided i wanted to know more about how a bunch of 1s and 0s by an operating system to make the marvel of the future we call a personal computer. I wanted to learn from the most important software devoloping company, Microsoft. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- To my surprise i could not quench my thirst for knowlledge because through a spectacular marketing ploy, Microsoft has managed to keep window's architecture a secret. this "closed source" way of doing things is certainly a right of microsoft (just like KFC's 7 herbs and spices), but coloneol sanders not telling the world how to make perfect chicken did not stand in the way of technological breakthrough. They do this simply so they can overcharge for mass produced buggy piece-of-crap programs. Yes, they know full well most of their software is put on shelves with little debugging done. they don't care because it is hard to lose control of 90% of the market (yea anti-trust lawyers ain't what they used to be) and the user can always download a patch (provided it hasn't limited their internet access). This is not how a business is suppose to run! unfortunately big business isn't as benevolent as we all thought Bill Gates has the business ethic that rivals that of Phillip Morris, Bill Gates you are a ******* and dont think i dont hate Steve Jobs and his iShit either Linus Torvalds, you're cool, I can't stand using linux (i love my simple interfaces ) but the fact that linux is doing its thing, I respect that.phew, hows that for a rant. Please someone make me look like and idiot and do some industrial espionage against Microsoft. Last edited by beer_city_sk8; 04-11-2006 at 09:43 PM. |

Actually, MS has such a hold because Gates had the foresight to go to the hardware vendors and get exclusive contracts early on. Once the biggest vendors shipped with MS products installed it was just matter of time before it was accepted as the norm.
I think the Open Source revolution is going to make Gates sweat. Linux becomes more and more refined, easy to use, far more secure (from both the inside and outside - a user can only crew up their own profile - they have to really work hard to kill the OS without root access). Open Source apps such as OpenOffice (Office Suite), Open Workbench (Complete Project Management), GnuCash/TurboCash (Financial), nVu (Web Design), GIMP (Graphics/Imaging), and more are becoming just as good (or even better in the case of OpenOffice) as their high-dollar MS brethern. |

I hear that Linus isn't planning on freely releasing the new Linux kernel. Is that true? If so, it could seriously hurt the open source world.
