I really _hate_ Anvil Studio. No offense, it's great, but it's crippleware. I sometimes need the extra software to make a song great.
I'm not a warez guy. Too much laws and spyware make it difficult to understand. In other words, I don't do it. So.... Is there an alternative to Anvil Studio that is _free_? SiteAdvisor goes crazy when I google "freeware MIDI composer". I really can't find one and I really need one. EDIT: I wasn't specific about the features I am looking for. Specifically, song looping, tempo changing, volume changing (crescendo/decrescendo).

Cubase and Sonar are the top high-end ones, if you don't mind spending a bit of money.
For something less advanced but with plenty of useful features, try Music Producer Studio (freeware). MIDI recording, composition and editing using Track, Piano Roll, Score Roll, Event List and Mixer.

Precisely why I'm saving for a dual-boot Mac. Until then, I'll use Music Producer Studio. Note: It sometimes crashes for no reason (it and my computer) when I leave it alone for a while. Weird.
