They still don't use a memory controller though. All AMD has to do is copy theirdesign, slap one of those on there, their #1 again.

It's a shame when a P4 2.8 HT, 512MB DDR2, 128MB PCI-X and SATA doesn't run as smoothly as an AMD XP 2400+, 512 PC2700, 64MB AGP 8x, IDE ... I have both side-by-side, same apps/os/av/antispyware, and the AMD is always smoother.

Gotta put my AMD 64 3800+ Dual Core together soon ...

Who cares? Intel is never going to reclaim the gaming crowd it lost with the Pentium 4's sloppy engineering. People who use AMD are a fiercely loyal following. It's gonna be the same way it has been: Intel sells mostly to the big manufacturer while simultaneously bullying them not to carry any AMD systems, and AMD sells to the system builders and gaming crowd. I for one am skeptical about anything Intel claims. I wouldn't trade my Athlon64 for ANYTHING from Intel. It's faster and more stable than anything I've ever had before.

i love my amd. the sad thing is my dad works in the computer world, and even he says amd are better chips. but he had to build a p4 based computer for home because sometimes he brings work home and the devlopment software(from ms) he uses only works 100% correctly on intel chips. he was grumbling when he was buying the parts because i built an amd that was 75% of the cost, and bested him in about 60% of the benchmarks. even after some upgrades, i still don't think i have spent as much total as he did to build his. the only way i'll ever have a intel based computer is if i buy a new mac. but my win os gameing pc will always be amd based.

So the Intel bashing never ends. I guess I humbly sit back and watch the AMD egos inflate.

Hi,

I pause to wonder. If AMD is the end all of computer CPU's, why does AMD have a 20% market share and Intel has an 80% market share????

I, like Crazijoe will humbly sit back and watch the AMD egos inflate. Therefore, I won't post on this thread again because of the contentious nature of this argument, but will watch the answers to this phenomenon.

Marketing. Same reason Novel has lost more and more of the market each year - A superior product poorly marketed. They rely on those in the know (which doesn't include Tumbleweed or Crazijoe, it seems ... ) rather than strong marketing campaigns.

To be sure, I was pro-Intel until I started building this company. My partner built AMD exclusively, and I was shocked at the savings. Then I saw how dependable they were, and I was hooked.

People want to know what to buy with computers not why, they assume the latter is too complicated to understand. Does Norton stop viruses? the answer would be yes, and most people stop there. And when you try to explain that there alternatives that cost much less and use less resources they just say, "that's OK," because the fear of the unfamiliar has set in.

An excellent answer, 40!

Furthermore... I was sent a link to a comparison between the Athlon FX-60 (OC'd to 2.8Ghz) and the Core Duo (2.6Ghz) and strangely, the scores were opposite of what you usually see! In gaming the Core Duo stomped the FX but in desktop work (video, music, etc.) the FX chip far outscored the Core Duo. Of course, I don't pay attention to FPS scores in games if they are above 60FPS so it was really all pointless to me. The biggest problem for Intel right now is the reliance on the NSB, even though they've managed to get it barely above 1Ghz. I'm also told that AMD will be releasing a new socket type this year (don't remember the name, it's weird) and will be switching over to DDR2. This turn of events won't sway me from AMD to Intel, but it will begin to change the tide for others I'm sure.

My last 2 computers have both been AMD and I loved both of them. That being said I hold no loyalties. Who ever has the best product at the time I go with. At the moment AMD is on top with the X2 which are easily better designed then the P-D.

6 months from now that all that may change when Intel releases it Conroe core. With the Conroe core Intel finally went over to what AMD have known for many years now. Low speeds with extremely efficent clocks are a better design. This is exactly what Intel doing with Conroe. It requires less power then current X2 and more efficient then current X2.

If AMD want to stay on top they need to answer this with something. The new skt M2 is not going to make a big difference. DDR2 don’t offer that much advantage. The CPU’s that are going to be released with M2 to me look like what they have basically now but with DDR2 support and some higher speeds. This is not going to beat Intel Conroe core.

Now I am sure AMD is working on something new but I have not heard about it in details yet and I have a feeling it not going to be out in time to compete with the release date of Conroe. Also Conroe in theory should be reasonably price since they are using a cheaper to produce 65nm.

Today AMD on top. If I had to guess in 6 months from now INTEL might finally be on top in the first time in a long time. A year from now AMD might be back on top who knows. I not going to worry about it until I ready to buy a new computer and then I look and decide who at top at the moment.

Gaming

Encoding

This was a demo machine provided from Intel so there are always the questions of trust. The people performing the test said they look at every setting and through all the hardware and they could not find any thing that looked out of ordinary. We will know in 6 months for sure when it actually released but it looks very promising and I don’t see a reason why Intel would try to cheat when everyone will find out for themselves so soon. That also gives Intel another 6 months to tweak it and make it even better. That was also there mainstream model tested there so if that killed fx-60 imagine what the EE will be able to do.
