Mercedes or a Dog ?

OWNING a dog over the course of its lifetime now costs as much as a new Mercedes, according to the latest figures.

The total bill for expenses such as vet's fees, food, kennels and other necessities adds up to an average of £22,000.

There is, however, a big difference between breeds - a small dog such as a Jack Russell terrier is estimated to cost up to £18,000, compared with £33,000 for a Great Dane.

Worth every penny :)

I know my dog didn't cost me $300 a month.

Cats are so much cheaper... you can leave it alone for a week and just hire the kid next door to give it food and water, and it's just as happy when you get back.

I don't think our cat has cost us more than 400 or 500 bucks total over a 5 year period.

This must be for people who really take care of their dogs. Take them in for a checkup twice a year, leave them at a kennel instead of a friends when they go on vacations, flee, tick, and grooming treatment regularly, the works.

We get Wal-Mart brand dog food. Plus a Merceds you have to have insurance on too.

Fox is right, my cat spends 90% of her time outside. Her latest murder victim was a squirrel.

My cat's really affectionate, too. It's pretty cool. She'll actually sleep at the foot of my bed if we don't put her in the downstairs bathroom sink to sleep.

Plus she's decimated generations of neighborhood chipmunks. I don't know if that's good or bad for the ecosystem, but it makes me proud

My Sophia kitty is an indoor cat but that's because the complex I live in doesn't allow pets to roam. And the people who live there drive like they've gone mad.

Cats >>>>>>>> Dogs

My System

my dog doesn't cost me much.

she's 11 years old. (i think)

the humane society flipped the bill for her to get spayed, after having two litters of ten pups. the humane society also payed for her final shots, and the second set of puppies to have their shots, in a deal connected with her being spayed. (they want animals spayed so badly, they almost pay you to let them)

but even had i paid it, it would have been cheap.

i think alot of it has to do with the fact that she's a mixed breed, and has had no medical complications her entire life.

she also was free when i got her too. (i didn't even have to pay for her first series of shots)

dog tags over 11 years? nope. my dog is by my side all the time, no need for tags.

so basically, she costs me nothing but a bag of food once a month, and a new collar each 6 months, and oh, i did pay 10$ for the toenail clippers and the styptic (alum) pencil.
lets see, 12x11x9$ hmmmm oh, about 1200$ so far.

P.S. i love that picture of supercat.

Mixed breeds of any animal seem to suffer generally from a lot less defects than the purebred counterparts.

Dogs smell even after a bath, in my opinion. Anyone who thinks that their dog doesn't smell should consult an outsider. They do. The same goes for people who don't keep up on the litter box. It smells. And badly. Perhaps worse than either of those is the dreaded cat urine smell, which easily tops a smelly dog (depending on the level of badness there).

But the worst I've ever encountered was a dog that easily weighs 200-some pounds, and has 5-inch long hair. He was recently bathed and trimmed, but before this he was the filthiest and most offensive creature I have ever encountered.
