Fired

WINDBER, Pa.— A man said he was fired from his job of 13 years for staying with his wife as she died of brain cancer.

Bernard Chippie, a sales representative for a carpet-cleaning company, said he notified his employer on Feb. 13 that he would not be able to finish his weekly route because he had just learned his wife had between two days and a week to live.

His employer has the soul of a monster .
Disgusting.

Wow, that's really terrible. This is deserving of some kind of story a-la 'The Christmas story'. I wonder how his boss would feel if the same happened to him?

That is terrible. I guess some people don't have a moral standing in this world.

In the US we have a law that would seem to cover a situation like this - called the Family and Medical Leave Act. Maybe the franchise is too small to fall under the Act but Rugdoctor certainly isn't. Regardless, they appear to be violating the Act or at least the spirit of the Act. And they appear to be cold and heartless - not exactly the image most corporations strive to present. I'm pretty sure his next stop will be at his lawyer's office. Can you say pain and suffering?

There are people here with the library that use FMLA just to extend their weekends.

Remember when you read stuff like this you really only get one sided views. This could have been a prepetual problem with this guy. There comes a time when enough is enough. If he was abusing his time off and not getting his work done then it could be effecting everyone that worked for that company.
