Stand On Corner With Sign

PORTAGE, Ind. -- A 16-year-old Portage High School student says he's learned his lesson to watch what he says.

Jamal Wooten's family made him stand on a street corner for four hours Wednesday, holding a sign explaining that he was suspended from school for five days for using foul language.

I don't think that's right. The saying, "it takes a village to raise a child," doesn't mean having random strangers be little and humiliate your kid with horn honks. You don't throw your kid to the wolves when he gets in trouble.

well at least he learned his lesson

i wonder what the punishment would be if he refused to hold the sign up?

something more embarrasing?

he probably only learned that his parents are expletives, and that he can behave however he wants when he's too old for anyone to command him to stand on a corner with sign. He hasn't learned why it was wrong, just that his family has a thing for the cruel and unusual.

Shame is a great motivator. It was dangerous but it was in no way cruel; unusual, but not cruel. His parents are the ones who punished him.

He can do what he wants when his parents aren't around to punish him.... until he goes to jail.

Unfortunately, that story was so small that it is not very fair for us to judge this one way or another. Maybe he is a bad kid in and out of jail already? Maybe he threatened a teacher and used bad words? We don't know the whole story.

Now if it ws my kid, I wouldn't be so mad that they used bad words, I would be disappointed that they didn't have the sense when to use them or not.
