the guy probably doesn't deserve it, but I'm pretty sure reasonable bail is part of the constitution.

It's the eighth amendment

This happened here in Columbus. The video showed the shocked reaction to the bail. This judge, plus the one in Medina who is making the guy who went on the field durng a Browns game miss the Super Bowl, makes me glad to live in Ohio.

-EDIT But then, here's my opinion on bail as a whole. If you did the crime, you deserve to stay in. If you didn't, well, after you get out you're still alive, you're still healthy, what more could you ask for? Live with it. If the police got the wrong person, at least they're out there looking rather than sitting back and not arresting anyone as they could quite easily be doing.

One reason excessive bail is forbidden is that it can be (and was) a tool used to punish the innocent. The good sheriff arrests you for something you didn’t commit. Bail is set very high. What are your choices if you don’t happen to have that much lying around?
Sell everything you own at 10 cents on the dollar. Or, you sit in jail until you’re case comes to trial. 6 months goes by – “Oops our bad, you’re free to go”. In the mean time your fields have gone unplanted, your cab didn’t get driven, your roof didn’t get patched, etc. You’re screwed.

Good point. But in the 21st century it is a little differnet. Gravely served time as a deadbeat and had to give a DNA sample under Ohio Law. His DNA was a positive match with DNA found on this dead girl. She was brutally raped and beaten to death and he rolled around for 15 years with the memory of her death in his mind. Undoubtedly he will be found guilty and based on his omission of any guilt for fifteen years, probabaly get death.
