suggestion
I was wondering why techsupport doesnt create an irc channel on one of the big servers such as freenode. I am sure it would get pretty active pretty quick and it would be a way for people to get to know each other and help each other out more.

I've been a proponent of at least getting some kind of IRC up and running (maybe with this site as the server), at least as a form of hub for the main members to talk. Realtime techsupporting is hectic and not as rewarding (since it's not archived to help others), and requires much more time.
But I think there should be Techsupportforum IRC. It's just too important and easy not to have.

Well would you actually be helping people, or would it be a spinoff of the Offline?

Probably be more like a spinoff of offline, but at least we wouldn't have those sort of "chat" threads (like we're having now
). And it would be a place for the mods as well as the general users to just hang out realtime and talk about important stuff (like if we have a database meltdown, we could keep each other posted). I think it would be a fun way for me to waste my time.I mean, this is a once in a life opportunity- the chance to chat with people who don't say things like "OMGWTF j00 r teh H4XX0R!!!"

It sounds cool. But (omg |-|28)
(pm me if you don't get |-|28, hint the sound "t")Again, you'd have to create a sticky on how to use IRC cause... me no-know.

its really easy espcially if you use someting like mIRC. Also you wouldnt need your own server if it was a problem you could go somewhere like freenode or you could make a channel on my server. I think it would be pretty cool and seeing the size of this community alot of people would join and help out.

well , it seems there is a consensus about creating a chatroom in IRC ,
I will have a talk with DK , and see what he thinks about it .

In my opinion, it would have to be a separate thing completely from a help forum, for one reason, most problems don't have instant answers and need a fair bit of thought first and sometimes even research.
If it was just for offline topics though, I guess it would be handy for those who wanted it. |

Yeah, just a place for the people who help out here to get to know each other and just chat.
Although I think it's important that instead of doing this on a huge IRC site like EFnet that we have our own server, with nickname registration- it would be a pain to have to track down who's using what nick and if someone were to pick up one that had been used by one of us... you get the idea. IRC is perfectly secure if you know how to use it correctly.

Can you please enlighten us about " correct irc usage " ? :)))
In my opinion even residing on irc is a security thread. I am very familiar with the irc's reverse technology. There are two security concerns about it. 1-user side 2-server side . All the irc worms - trojans - irc-backdoor viruses will be there with the infected users. Sounds like a bad joke. Then those warms will start to act. Are you aware what an infected user on the server means ? What about the bored fellas who doesnt really like something about the TSF ? It will be an excellent fun to nuke a server. Higher better security means cost... Good luck if you decide to. I just wanted to share what i knew. regards. |

So disable DC, hopfully we'll have SSL set up, and use a firewall.
I've used IRC for 4 years now, and I've never had a computer infected or anything close to that, because I use common sense.
