Ok this is just me whining

I live at home currently and we recently moved to a new home, a home without any broadband! GAH! I have contacted the cable company who said they would run lines into the moorage (bunch of houseboats and a boat launch) but apparently they want an easement from the owner's who won't give it because they don't want to give up their rights to their property which I understand ... so I figure hhm DSL? Nope no go, 22 thousand feet from the Central Office, Satellite? Prohibitively expensive bleh. So back to dialup I go...

I feel your pain! :D I've been screwing around with Comcast for a couple of days since a tree fell on their lines up the street, my broadband has been in and out. I had my dial backup running, and I forgot how painful that is!

This may be expensive, but what about getting ISDN?

I looked into ISDN before I could get cable, MAN WAS THAT EXPENSIVE! There's no way I pay a couple hundred a month for 128kb access! :angry2:

My System

heh

i had to deal with dial up for a long time, and then when i got cable, that only lasted about 6 months, and then back to dial up for 2 months, and then back to cable for about 6 more months, and then dial up for 4 months, and now i am back on cable since about 2 months ago.

so i feel your pain too.

:)

Why so many switches between dial-up and cable?

ISDN isn't too expensive around here, Qwest does it for about 70 bucks a month for the circuit and IP so really thats cheap as far as I'm concerned. Cost isn't a huge issue, but I don't want to be spending gobs of money on an internet connection, if I *really* need bandwidth, I just grab a the laptop and head into the office and jack into a switch which is turn plugged into multiple DS3's heh. I just don't feel like putting in a lot of effort into getting something done since I'm planning on moving out of the 'rents house here at the end of the year :) Figure I need a place for me and fridge full of beer to call my own heh.

True, I've got free dialup also ... which is nice. One good thing out of all this so far is that it will force me to work more on my programming rather then mindlessly surfing webpages which is a good thing though.
