Wow, that sounds interesting. What kinds of fish do you go for?

I usually don't get to travel like that for the holidays. Wish I could though. Mostly its just time spent with family.

Pike, a native European predator fish, they can grown up to 3, sometimes 4 feet long, and weigh upto 25/35 pounds, I managed to catch, 6 small Pike, using a variety of lures, over a 7 day period of traveling about, and I released them all, nothing to write home about really, but the drinking and the stories of the ones that got away were excellent :D

Lots of fun. They never react the same to beeing hooked - and even a little 10 pounder has some serious fight. We used to go to Quevec (about 250 miles north of Montreal).

You stick woth spoons and such or do you use surface lures?

I prefer the jitterbug (surface) ... seems to drive them nuts.

AAAAArrrrrrrrr, the lure is everything, if you want to get them biting, :D I try to avoid the surface lures, unless the water is too densely packed, I often use the fluorescent spoons, a little flash of a bite passes them and they can't resist :D
I think I've seen the jitterbug Somewhere ? Is that the one with the long tale piece?

Bass and Jitterbugs

Sealy - Bass fishing is fun. Where I grew up in Massachusetts there wasn't much in the way of bass (5lb largemouth was a trophy fish) ... Here in Louisiana, it's a different story .. :)

The jitterbug is ... well ... this

http://www.reelbass.com/jitterbug.JPG

We always fished for pike before they spawned ... I swear you could use an old rusty lid from a tin of beans that has been soaking in petrol for a year and they'll still hit it when they're getting ready to spawn. Part hunger and part territoriality. I tended towards the all black, but nearly any color combo will work. The biggest advantage is that if you're taking the kids fishing, it make filming them much easier - pike will generally approach from behind, and their forehead ridge makes a nice wake in the water.

That is so true. If you caught or killed it, you cleaned it.

Arrr i see that bit at the end , must make it dance about quite a bit, :D

I've always put back fish, I won't eat, and Pike isn't the most delightful fish to eat, although some disagree, its more of a acquired taste, I think,

I used to do some deep sea fishing, catching mostly cod, although I suspect you have a different name for it, catch clean, and cook, slight advantage having been to catering College, I was a chef for several years, but the kitchens just became to hot for me :D and if you can't stand the heat :D

Cod

Nothing better than a fresh batch of Cod and chips ... Although plaice is very nice, too.

Pike is a great fish to eat, but you have to keep the recipe simple - cornmeal and egg batter, some salt and pepper, then pan fry it in a little olive oil.

Having lived in East Anglia from 96-01, I became accustomed to the local pub and the chip shop .... Need to go visit soon.

On the jitterbug - it's tail sways side to side, and the spoon up front makes a nice disturbance in the water - drives the pike crazy .. :angry2:

Mmmmmmmm the chip shop now ure talking, I'm living in Norwich at the mo, but I used to live up North, near hull, they've got a monopoly on the best chip shops up there , unless you like the deep fried Mars Bars the Scottish do :D

I've only tried Pike once, tasted like alligator to me urrereee, can't remember how I cooked it, I probably used a kettle, and some court-bouillon
