In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina the media takes another blow

They reported that at the Superdome bodies were piling up in the basements. Childrens necks were slit. Kids were raped. This was reported on the Oprah show and the news media and papers. Officials also bought into all the hysteria. In the end there were 10 bodies found in and around the Superdome. Two look like murders. One of the murders was a body outside that looks like he was taken to the Superdome after he was murdered. One of the deaths was a suicide. Most of the deaths was heat exhausion. There have been no eye witnesses of rape and no one has yet come forward to say they were raped. There may have been someone raped but the media made it sound like these New Orlieans were a bunch of out of control animals.
Not only does this hysteria created by the media look bad on the people of New Orleans but it reflects very badly on America. We now have a black eye due to the fact that the media once again does not care about real journalism. There only concern is selling papers and getting viewers. The other problem with the media is for every big event one media source reports it and the others just follow suit. A template is created for that event and is repeated throughout all the other media sources. Nobody does any real journalism any more.

I live in Louisiana, and the media loves drama and chaos. This doesn't surprise me, however, it does bother me that the rest of the nation will have this false impression of the people who live here, including myself.

And I know how to fix it. 1 News broadcast, 1 hour, per network, per day. If those morons didn't have so much time to fill they wouldn't need to invent things to report on. Then people wouldn't feel choked by media and they wouldn't need super controvercial headlines to get them interested in the papers.

because journalism has changed in last decade , this becoming like a hollywood show , like matrix or terminator show ,it is not anymore just the plain news with facts and analysis , the network is looking to get a large audience , so they have to find a way to captivate and attract the public with spectacular images and news .... real or fiction ?

What I hate is how one network will report what another network is saying as if THAT were news.

"This is Channel 7 Eyewitness News. Today in New Orleans, CNN is reporting that a green monster emerged from the muck..."

First of all if CNN already reported it, its NOT NEWS! And 2, if its false to begin with, now there are two untruths.

News is not entertainment. That's why I almost never watch TV news.

Its a two way street. The public thrives on drama whether they say they do or not. Just look at all the dramatic shows, including the news . the more drama, the more that watch.
The media has a responsibility to report facts , very true, but the viewing public also has the responsibility to not watch, if less watch and give them ratings, then the media will change their strategy.

But the public watch the news to get facts, not drama. How can the people not watch - where else are they going to get information? Drama is an added bonus (to a lot of people), but we still rely on the news services to broadcast the truth. If we can't rely on the news to tell the truth, it just becomes one more TV drama. Then where will we find out about what is happening in the world? There isn't anywhere left.

Think of it this way: What if one news service decided to broadcast that world war three was starting just for ratings. All the other networks would pick up on this and start repeating it. Eventually, everyone would think WW3 had actually started. Either we do actually go to war off the back of the media (after which there won't be much media left), or everything settles down and nobody trusts the news services ever again.

There's a limit to hop far the media can go with this dramatisation of the facts..... where that limit is we don't know yet, but as far as I can see we're approaching it at an alarming rate.

Tv reporters are a huge issue with me. I would really like to see the television and newspapers cleared out of all current 'reporters.'

Let's put some smart ugly people on tv instead of those vacuous grinning dolts. Every time I see one of these fools smiling at me like they were the epitome of the blonde stereotype, and talking to me as if I was 3 years old... all while promoting themselves like they're the best thing ever to hit Tv. "WATCH!! Elyssa Lynn!! BECAUSE SHE'S BETTER THAN YOU!!"

I think I'll find a lil' thing I wrote a few years ago, may have to edit for profanity however. It's angry I know, but it expresses my frustrations with the media fairly well, lol. My mention of Fox News only has to do with their public image, not their politics.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today my frustration with human stupidity is directed at the news media. Granted I have ALOT of human stupidity frustration pointed at them; but this is something in particular that I hate. Possibly one of the biggest wastes of money ever: The News 10 Weather Tower!!! A BIG EXPENSIVE POLE IN THE GROUND WITH A LIGHT ON TOP OF IT!!! If the light is RED, it's gonna be HOT today. Wow, makes sense. But don't you have to be driving by on the freeway to see this p.o.s. tower? And doesn't that mean that you've already gone outside, gotten into your car, and driven past the tower for it to tell you that it's hot outside? Seems you would have noticed that if you had just stuck your hand out your window huh?

Let's ignore how stupid the pole is for now. When I went to the website to make sure that it was channel 10 that had this retarded idea, my intelligence was (lol let's change this to "assaulted") by just about everything I had the misfortune of reading. I quote:

"Kids!Watch Monica Woods' Bus Stop/Recess Forecast and find out how you should dress for school. You could win great prizes for your whole class! Just click on the sun at left for full details."

So now the news media has stooped to telling little kids how to dress?! I mean this isn't only stupid, it's insulting! They are saying that the child's parents are too inept to tell their children to wear a jacket today. I don't know what kinda house holds these retards grew up in but my mother new what a jacket was... then there's the fact that no little kid is going to waste his freaking playtime by watching some ****** *** reporter tell them what to do, much less be on a News10 Website to begin with. HOW DUMB ARE THESE PEOPLE? I mean it's not just a stupid idea, it's a REALLY stupid idea. This is the kind of idea you'd get after you've fallen out of the idiot tree and hit every single branch on the way down.

Now once again ignore how STUPID an idea this is to begin with.

"You could win great prizes for your whole class! Just click on the sun at left for full details."

OHHH I GET IT!! This is a pathetic attempt to gain RATINGS! Not only are they just money-hungry (and the anchors are after fame of course). They are trying to fool us, and disguise their attempt at improving ratings by pretending to care about your children.

And what a horrible attempt. I mean holy crap. "We need to tell your kids how to dress, see how we care?" This makes it all the more insulting to the viewers (whom I am saddened to say usually fall for it). They think you're so stupid that they don't even make a DECENT attempt to hide what they're doing... **** *** NEWS MEDIA.

If you have to watch the news I say go for Fox or something, they don't seem to be as full of themselves as Ch10 and friends. I mean when you watch ABC, half the commercials you see are advertising ABC, "we bring you the touching stories about your neigborhood blablablalblal" I dont give a flying F, if you can't give me decent news when you have an "update every hour" then maybe you SHOULDNT GIVE ME NEWS EVERY SINGLE HOUR. I would be perfectly happy with ONE news show per day. Then maybe I wouldn't have to repair my IQ after every viewing.

There was a startup news station here in SA that was a 24/7 source. The difference between them and everyone else? They provided REAL NEWS. They didn't dress thmselves or the events up, they just laid it out straight and honest.

Sadly, that news station no longer exists.

I had a chance to sit down with a social worker that was in the Super Dome working the shelter during Katrina ... The stories you have all heard are mostly false. But, the truth is far worse.

Yes, there were rapes and murders. Yes some involved children and the elderly. Yes, there were organized gangs.

I don't think all the truth will ever be revealed. Like the truckload of bodies from the lower 9th ward that isn't, for some reason, part of the death total - and Army doctor was quoted as saying "several thousand dead were trucked in from around the city.".

People showed there true colors during this ordeal - be it helping others or turning into animals.
