Caps Lock: Die?

I think the Caps Lock needs to be removed from the keyboard as it is very abused. Your thoughts?

The single greatest improvement in WinXp is the little warning that comes up that tells me CAP LOCK is on when I start to enter a password.

How about the Pause/Break key? What's that one for?

It's not as bad as the insert key.

I think it just needs to be moved, It wouldn't feel right without it somewhere there.

You try getting used to a new keyboard! My girlfriend's new system has a keyboard with the delete/insert section completely re-arranged:

And yes, that is one big delete button, with home over it, end to the right of that, and page up/down to the right of the delete. Not an insert in sight. It's just not right!

Having said that, How often do all of us use the ctrl/alt buttons? (I know all the windows users use it a lot, especially in conjunction with delete ) Ever thought they were in a hard to get at place? Wouldn't it be better to have one of them where caps lock is, and hide caps lock away somewhere..... like a tiny pinhole on the underside of the keyboard?

I've ripped it off my keyboard and stuck it to my monitor, as a constant reminder that not everything that is old is good.

"If I want a capital, I'll press the bleedin' SHIFT key!"

I Don't Think Having A Caps Lock Key Is So Bad. But I Wonder Why Does Everyone Think I Am Yelling At Them?

I'd pop mine off, but my dad would completely freak out...

so I just don't use it, unless I'm gaming. (Its the walk/run toggle for a lot of games.)

I actually posted a rant about this a while back.

It's been torn off my computer for the past 3 or 4 months and I'm very happy with the situation.

Funny that this popped up. All caps came up in a conversation I had the other day. Apparently the reasoning behind the way we read all caps goes back to ancient Rome. All caps was solely used solely in stone, and always as a voice of power. Caps have continued to be used that way to the point where we sub-consciously read it as a stern voice of authority. I'm not sure if I agree with this, but hey, it was a good source. If you think it's just a size issue, compare a 12 point font to an 18 point font, then compare that 12 point font to it's CAPS letters.

Replace caps lock with an automatic ctrl+alt+delete button. It would get used ALOT more.

its the same as the right click menu for most screens

Like on the windows desktop, it brings up stuff like copy paste, all that good stuff.

In web browsers, it brings up back, forward, etc.. buttons that you can push.

Try it!

Hi,

Gotta keep that key for when someone needs yelled at. ZINGO!

Anyway, with my Logitech mx700, I like the looks of the big green letters that come up when you hit the caps key by mistake. If you turn it off, those big green letters also have that great green look. Kind of a sexy look anyhow! They simply say "Caps Lock On" or "Caps Lock Off," so go figure that one.

Uh, one other thought.....if you don't know how to type well enough to avoid that key, then I suggest that you take that key off so it doesn't get hit when it is not supposed to be on. Am I suggesting some don't know how to type very well to avoid that key???.....well, go figure on that one also.

It's a shame there's no hardware mod to make it be a push/release key like the shift key is. That way it could still be of use in video games, etc.

I mean really- how often do we actually use the caps lock key for what it was made?
