Rope Swings
Ok...so has anyone ever been to austin, (henry I hope you know what I'm talking about) and seen the 360 bridge?
![]() well my friends and I got to thinking today, and we have decided to build a rope swing on it, over the river. It will look roughly like the attached picture (with the bottom curving line being roughly where we will travel). Thoughts? Ideas? Currently the rope measures 85 feet long, and we will be an estimated 30 feet above the water when we reach our optimal release height. ...this is going to be awesome

Ever read "Hop on Pop"?
Elf sat on hat, Elf sat on cat, Elf sat on bat, NO ELF NO! Don't swing on that. I'd rather my last image of you be because I met you, not because your picture is plastered all over the media cause you and your buddies did something stupid to get yourselves hurt.

Lol bry good 1! But sadly elf, I haven't been to Austin
If it were Louisiana I would know exactly what you were talking about. The farthest inwards I have travelled into TX is New Braunsfels. Sounds fun though, when/if you get it built, I might go check it out. Last edited by Spatcher; 07-21-2005 at 07:37 AM. |

To be fair though, there are no signs posted about swinging from the bridge

Well day one of swinging is over, and it was....AWESOME!!!!
I should have video up relatively soon, as soon as I can get to my friend with a firewire connection. I will host them up on my site so it will be a little slow, if you want to host a mirror, PM with details and when I get the video we will set it up. (oh and I only landed flat on my back once...I think that may be the end of my swinging, as I think I almost broke my back. A 30 foot fall flat on your back hurts like you couldn't possibly imagine. We don't have video of the fall, but we have video of my back more than 2 hours later, and it's still bright red)

that's great.
lol reminds me of lake jumping our bicycles. you set a ramp up in front of a deep part of a lake, and you find a hill to come down all fast, and then once you jump, you jump off of your bike, and try to jump as far further as you can. you keep someone set up to judge the distances, and a hook and rope to dredge for bikes, and make a day of it. and then someone lands in the water, and gets hit with their own bike...

Hey, I'm recovering nicely and I think they are going to continue jumping. I got unlucky because when I swung I went through a tree and a vine wrapped around my leg. When I kicked to get it off and let go of the rope I kicked myself backwards and to the back-busting position.
edit: the attached picture is a better picture of the area. The X is where we jump from, the big circle is the tree we had to cut down after Billy and I hit it a few times and got torn up pretty good.

My friend's editing the video as we speak and it is awesome. I will provide a link when the video is done.
By the way, does anyone have any good compression codecs? maybe divx? Last time he rendered it, it was 300MB for 1.5 minutes which is just too much ![]() edit: the rope swinging is now no longer a valid option. We got two good days of swinging in before the cops came and chased us out. We didn't get in any trouble, but are not welcomed back

Don't know if it'll be suitable for what you're doing, but I use Gordian Knot - it compresses a full 2 hour DVD film down to about 700 MB at 640*480 with little visible quality loss using the XviD codec.
