Girls and movies

Last Thursday night I went out with a girl (an old friend, not anything more) to see Episode III. When I arrived at her apartment she said I was scary-looking and invited me in. When I sat down she started saying I was dumb and immature. I didn't say anything about the obvious 20+ pounds she put on since I last saw her. I tolerated it and then we decided to go grab some food before our movie. On the way to the restaurant she started to insult everything I do and like. My job is stupid, my interests are stupid, my friends are stupid, my car is stupid. I'm stupid in general. I wanted to just drive her back to her apartment and drop her off at the front gate. Instead I took off for the theater after we got our meal. We sat in the parking lot and she kept going. Blah blah blah. We went inside eventually and saw that there wasn't a line. She asked to have the tickets changed for the 10:50 show instead of 11:50. I didn't want to because I paid by credit card and that just complicates things for some strange reason. I got them exchanged anyway and we went into the auditorium. At that point she changed completely and started acting all sweety on me. She'd try to rest her head on my shoulder, she'd poke playfully, the whole "I'ma cute girl!" shtick. When I didn't respond she asked me if I was mad. No, I was shaking because of the freak earthquake that was happening below only my chair!

What do you guys and girls make of this?

OK, you all are probably going to think that I am some kind of pig, but here I go.

No young man can be friends with a girl (see Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally). There is always the question of sex. I tried the "just being friends" route before. It either never pans out or if it does, it sadly ruins friendship.

It seems to me that she had already had soemthing in mind. You are just friends and you come up to her door to be an emotional tampon?

I sure hope you defended yourself when she ripped you like that. I certainly would not stand for that from any woman, including my wife.

I hope you liked the movie, it rocked! I don't know how old you are, but as long as you learned something about yourself, it was a good experience.

I think I'd pass on a 2nd date myself, this is a girl with issues.

I'd say this is a first, we agree that she has issues.

I've known her since 2000. Back then she was really sweet and kind and I loved every second we spent with each other. We never actually went out but we were so close that everyone we knew thought we were a couple.

Yes, I did make an attempt to defend myself but she quickly shot that down as well. I'm 22 but I don't think I learned anything other than I can be hurt by people I care about.

Well, if you aren't interested in her romantically then I see no reason to contact her again, especially since she proved herself to not be much of a friend.

Trust me, this girl has things going on in her life right now that you do not want to get into. If you become intimate with her, make darn sure you have a rabbit skin on. Remember people only change for two reasons, religion and near death experiences, and even then their colors can only be faded, you can't bleach any thing away.

I'll start a thread explaining why star wars was a disappointment, don't want to crowd this one.

She's young and immature so she doesn't know how to express her feelings. I believe she likes you and this is her bazaar way of flirting. I personally wouldn't have the patience for a girl like that but maybe you do.

It does sort of sound like she's going through something. Break it off, but tell her you're there if she wants to talk about it.

Bry, I would like to disagree with being friends with a girl, but agree to a certain point. I have a whole slew of friends who are girls, and nothing has ever went wrong with us. That leads me to believe that any of the following are possible:

- Being within a group of frends which also includes girls makes things stable
- The fact that some of those girls have boyfriends and I am also friends with their boyfriends makes things stable
- Maybe I'm ugly enough that the ones that don't have boyfriends aren't interested. Not saying it's likely, but it's possible.

But I do have some very healthy relationships with girls that haven't broken down... it could be the age group too. We're all in high school.

Gaining 20 pound is a sign for something people. And you said she was talking crap the whole time too? She definitely wants to be with you, but she is playing some serious mind games. It would be a mistake to get involved with some one who likes to test people rather than behave like a real adult.

Have you thought about this, do you have a "stupid" job, "stupid" this/that? Maybe she's only implying that you can do better. And the "stupid" thing is purely subjective, what may be "stupid" to her may not be to you, and vice-versa.

i hate being tested so much, i fail on purpose.

like if i was in a situation to where i noticed i was being tested by someone to see how i will react, i purposely react in a way they never expected, that way i'm sure to screw up whatever stupid experiment they are conducting.

and i wont even get into what i would do if a girlfriend of mine tested me to see if i would cheat on her by sending her friend over to "seduce" me.

(those are a couple of good examples of what i mean, i just hate being tested.)

That hardly sound like constructive criticism to me, it sounds a lot like judgement though, and you don't want some one judging you all the time unless you have some mother complex or something.

yeah, a girl calling your job "stupid" is not constructive really in any way, but it may be her best attempt at being constructive.

I'd have to agree with bry on this one...friendly relationships with girls rarely work if for no reason other than sexual tension. Eventually it will build up and your relationship will turn from friends to more than friends (or maybe friends with benefits). Also fox, these girls you hang out with, do you ever hang out just you and her?
