I find this to be unlikely... they aren't even able to clearly decipher the transcript. When the Bible was translated the transcripts used were able to be deciphered clearly. Also the translators did not rely on one transcript for the translation so there were several transcripts that were in agreement on this number six hundred threescore and six (666).

There's all sorts of numbers out there for The Number Of The Beast.

While most manuscripts say 666, here are some different examples to compare:

King James Version - 666
Codex Ephraemi Rescriptus - 616
The minuscule manuscript 2344 - 665

There's all sorts of nutcases out there:

Some Rastafarians believed Ronald Reagan was The Beast because he lived at 666 on his block (until Nancy changed it to 668) and had 6 letters in his first, middle and last names (Ronald Wilson Reagan).

Python is the programming language of The Beast... why? The IP of their site ( 194.109.137.226 ) adds up to 666.

Viagra has a molecular weight of 666 g/mol

The Irish police are the henchmen of The Beast - all Garda stations' phone numbers in Dublin, Ireland start with 666

A King and a Queen pre-flop is the hand of The Beast in Texas Hold 'em Poker - 666 in base 32 is KQ

File permissions in Linux - All users read/write access? 666

Roman Numerals are the numbering system of The Beast - take the first 6 numerals in RN and they are DCLXVI - 500, 100, 50, 10, 5, 1. Add them... oh look, 666.

Numerology is interesting, but there really are same crackpot ideas out there.

It does point out a question I've had since my first run-in with evangelicals back in the 70’s (I Found It): If the Bible is the true word of God, why is it open to differing or misinterpretations? Why isn’t the one true meaning hard wired into us? Surely your omnipotent intelligent creator knew this confusion would surface.

let's say you have the intellegence of a man form 30 Israel, and some guy says to you I'm the massiah, he has this ora so you say ok I belive you, then he gives you a book of rules the size of three Oxford English DIctionaries.

He had to make it simple because he wanted even the simpleton to be able to expeiance salvation, if you going toblame some one for christianities short commings then blame men who twisted and corrupted the teachings, because his word is nothing short of perfect.

That's what I belive at least.

What "Word" are you referring to? Pick any passage and ask two people what it means and you'll get at least two meanings. If it's truly "The Word" I don't understand how the one true path to salvation can be open to individual interpretation?

The Reformation came about when people were able to read the Bible and said, "Wait a minute. I don't agree with you. I think it means this.." So, with the various translations saying different things, which is the true one?

And even if you can agree on the one true translation (how will you be sure you picked the right one?

), you still have the dilemma of differing interpretations.

This just leaves too much to chance for me to accept from an omnipotent God.

P.S. 40 - I suggest you take a minute to edit your posts. Perhaps draft them in your word processor with spell check turned on.

Sorry RK, but it's been my experience that the more you show them logic, the harder they dig in their heels to defy it. I'm content with letting the Christians believe what they want so long as they leave me alone. They never seem to want to do that though.. Gotta ban gay marriage cause it doesn't conform to their book, gotta make my kids pray in school, and now they're against the production of a vaccine against genital warts because they think it will give women a license to engage in premarital sex....

Never going to happen unfortunately. The most major recent even must be the 'War on Terror' (aka the 'war to keep low gas prices' as coined by someone). Even if it was just an excuse to go to war, religion had a major part in it. Religion will always encroach into people's lives, be they religious or not.

That's life I'm afraid.

God is a constant source of amusement to me though - christianity in specific. Such as the fact that Jesus wasn't even considered the son of God until about 320 AD when they voted that he should be.

A computer is like an Old Testament god, with a lot of rules and no mercy.

God is real, unless declared integer.

I agree completely. No offense meant to anybody who believes in their 'god' though. I'm even somewhat envious of those who believe with a passion. I just can't bring myself to swallow anybody's version. Especially when they try to set policy & law by it.

But back on topic, I wonder since the number was seen in a dream, and theoretically all numbers seen in dreams are upside down & backwards or something, if it isn't 919!

And all this time people have been wrongly avoiding hotel rooms & apartments numbered 666. Whoda thunkit?!?!
