Networking Quiz how smart do you think you are?

1. Can you name the 7 osi layers? Easy!

2. Can you name the 3 TCP layers? Easy right?

3. At what layers do the following reside:

router.......
switch.......
bridge.......
hub...........
repeater...
Nic............

4. What do token ring and FDDI have in common?

5. How many host do you have per subnet when you have a subnet mask of 255.255.248.0?

6. After you know which layer a switch resides at is there another layer not talked about that much that it can reside at?

7. What type of tables do switchs use when fowarding packets?

8. What's the difference between multi-mode and single-mode when dealing with fiber?

Just wanted to see how sharp some of you are. If you have to look up the answers then you'll always know your not as smart as you thought.

Without double checking, off the top of my head ...

1. Can you name the 7 osi layers?

Yes. Oh, you want me to name them ...

Application
Presentation
Session
Transport
Network
Datalink
Physical

All P Should Taste Natural, Delicious, and Pure. ;)

2. Can you name the 3 TCP layers?

I'm not sure what you mean by 3 TCP layers. TCP & UDP?

3. At what layers do the following reside:

router....... in general 3
switch....... in general 2
bridge....... in general 2
hub........... 2
repeater... 1
Nic............ 1

4. What do token ring and FDDI have in common?

They are both a ring topology.

5. How many host do you have per subnet when you have a subnet mask of 255.255.248.0?

With IP Subnet Zero (or its equivalent) 16. Without, 14.

6. After you know which layer a switch resides at is there another layer not talked about that much that it can reside at?

I assume you're talking about the difference between logical link and data link. It is more at the Data Link Layer instead of the Logical Link Layer. Unless you're talking about a layer 3 or higher switch ...

7. What type of tables do switchs use when fowarding packets?

Forwarding tables. Also called MAC tables.

8. What's the difference between multi-mode and single-mode when dealing with fiber?

One has more than one mode, one only has one mode ... heh heh heh. Single mode fiber has a much longer distance than multimode. If you want to go short, go multi mode. If you want to go far, go single mode. Of course, single mode costs more.
