EEK! Webcam under Windows

Ok.. here my tale of woe.. lol.

I bought my mom and her boyfriend matching webcams for christmas.. not reading reviews beforehand <thats what I get for last minute shopping> Anyhoo I get it home, let her set it up and it works fine.. couple days later find out that its no longer sending video streams, but her bf's is sending fine.. I reload the driver and everything's kosh for another week.. suddenly she starts getting all these friggin WinMgmt.exe errors.. as someone might have noticed.. I'm not a windows guy.. I've used Linux exclusively for just about a year.. so my troubleshooting skills under windows suck.. much like the OS.. but anyways ;) I decide to reinstall 2k.. windows see's the cam, sets it up in device manager and then poof.. won't let it initialize a video stream.. i play with drivers yadda yadda.. I install XP.. blue screens up the ying yang.. more drivers.. yadda yadda.. swap memory, hard drives, IDE cables thinking maybe its a legit hardware issue..

Finally I get tired of all this and swap in a webcam I bought 3 years ago which doesn't work under Linux (blame intel for their closed sourced mindedness) ... and voila everything is happy.. needless to say I'm spent.. I've been working this issue for nearly a month! La Madre is out of town for the weekend, so atleast she'll have a nice surprise when she gets back .. along with a brand new spanking OS to boot..

This durn thing drove me insane-o tho.. so I wanted to rant about it :) Thanks for listening..

Its a creative webcam(usb) model PD1001.. its not a bad webcam for the price.. picture quality can be grainy at times (however this is fixed by a few adjustments within windows) .. just didn't jive with my mom's particular setup.

Nothing from creative ever Jives with Windows. Ya their hardware is good, but their drivers and software suck bad!
