whats the idea about H1N1?

what is the big idea about making this a big case, apart from the fact that its declared "pandemic".

-H1N1 is the same thing as the regular flu, it has a very small death percentage, OULALA, the only difference, is that H1N1 ends to attack the young more than the old.

-H1N1 does not have many apearing symptoms as far as i know, thats the only thing that COULD make it relatively dangerous. becaus if you present no symptoms but actually have it, and not takeing care of your self, yes you can die in this case.

Re: whats the idea about H1N1?

All my teachers say it's nothing to worry about. Probably right, I think the media is just making it all hyped and exaggerated. Though I would prefer not to get it.

Re: whats the idea about H1N1?

I'm Canadian so my posts have nothing to do with usa health care.
H1N1 is not very bad as of yet. The big deal is that we have no immunity AND influenza viruses are well know to mix with other influenza viruses and mutate to create new strains. When swine flu first came about in Mexico in humans it was uncertain as to how deadly it would be. Many people feared it would be very deadly which it has turned out not to be.

But now in North America we have officially entered the flu season which means this H1N1 is very likely to mix and mutate and could become extremely deadly...but it also might not be.

It is impossible to predict exactly what will happen with this flu.

The important thing to remember here is that it is very very easily passed from human to human and the flu lasts about 7 days. It is very possible that it could effect businesses and with our economy as it is could create a disaster.

In short, it is better to know about it than to not and to be aware of what could happen even though it hasn't yet. Prevention is always a good thing.

Cheers!

Re: whats the idea about H1N1?

My objection is that H1N1 is continuously portrayed as some new Bubonic plague, just waiting to strike. It's annoying, and every little outbreak is treated as if it's huge news. It's the flu. EVERY flu has the same potential to mix with other viruses, and EVERY flu evolves new ways past our immunity. It's nothing new.

Why is it all over the news? Last year after the Avian flu nonsense some biologists determined (80% sure) that the flu that caused the Spanish Flu outbreak in 1918 was H1N1. So obviously if H1N1 shows up again the outbreak must be similar in scale. Then H1N1 did show up--as it occasionally does. This information was passed to the media, who then showed it on the 5:00 news and blew it way out of proportion. Now they can't go back on their earlier statements about it being the end of the world without looking like total ******* idiots. So they have to keep making it big news. And when the media hype finally collapses, they can all point at other networks and say, "Nuh-uh! THEY were the ones who blew it out of proportion!"

Re: whats the idea about H1N1?

News is news. Thats the way they grab attention. Plus they need to fill in time so why not cover a "pandemic".

Re: whats the idea about H1N1?

no the virus was renamed from "The Swine Flu" to "H1N1 influenza virus" to "H1N1 Pandemic Influenza Viral flu", Health Canada has started distributing vaccines but alot of poeple and doctors worry themselves that it might be "dirty".

plus, the fact that this is already a big thing in the world and VERY VERY bad, thats Medias, its not true its not BAD as of YET. although it might become that way, for now, it just isnt.

Re: whats the idea about H1N1?

The vaccine is perfectly safe, otherwise it would not have passed inspection. You'd think that the people would know that, but for some reason many still don't trust the government and officials.

Still, I don't think there's much we can do about this. Pandemics have killed hundreds of millions of people throughout history, what's to say it won't kill in modern times? Even if us developed nations can take the necessary precautions, what about the several billion people living in poverty or in the third world countries?

Of course I don't WANT to catch it, but if worst comes to worst and I do, then fine; I'll get over it (I've already gotten the flu, but I'm not sure what it was). If I die... well, let's not talk about that. There're much more pressing issues in the world right now, such as AIDS, malaria, regular flu, lack of access to food and clean water, wars, etc etc etc.

Re: whats the idea about H1N1?

Well I'm not so sure the H1N1 Flu is so exaggerated, but I feel the vaccine is rushed and ergo ineffective. My mother forbade me to get the vaccine because of the high failure rate/severe side effects it causes.

Re: whats the idea about H1N1?

not only that, the danger of getting that early a flu shot could result in a mutation in the virus...
