Re: H1N1 Update - 23 October 2009
And if you do the math, it works out to a 0.01204% mortality rate. Oh teh noes, we're all doomed.
Twenty thousand people die of the common flu just in the United States each year (http://www.unitedjustice.com/death-statistics.html). Versus just five thousand worldwide from H1N1? SURELY the end is nigh. brb gotta restock the fallout shelter

Air filtration, thus protecting from airborne pathogens.

Re: H1N1 Update - 23 October 2009
Yeah, the point of a fallout shelter is to protect the people inside from radiation, and this involves filtering radioactive particles out of the air, either by filtering incoming air or by blocking off all outside air and using stored air. A fallout shelter can be as simple as a ditch in the ground with a water tank and a lead-lined tarp over it, or it can be a full-scale bunker (which is what most people think of). I'm assuming an imaginary basement fallout shelter with active air filtration.

Re: H1N1 Update - 23 October 2009
you guys want to start your own thread? Thanks :)
As for seasonal flu, you are correct...add on this flu plus seasonal flu and the deaths are much greater in total. Look at the big picture. On the brightside 0.01204% mortality rate is much better than July at 0.40% The regions that are infected the most are the reason mortality rate is so great. Wait till the 3rd world countries get slammed by it. That number of deaths will be phenominal. Either way. A few months ago I made a thread updating on H1N1 and ppl mocked it until a popular members mother got it. If ya want to be annoying and heartless, do it in your own thread. Some people here do care. PTFO!

Re: H1N1 Update - 23 October 2009
Mexico was the first place to get hit, and I would consider the slums of Mexico City to be pretty close to the third world. The mortality rate was still (I believe) less than 0.5%, with little to no medical care.
Was I being a little sarcastic? Mocking? Acerbic? Yes. But the point stands: H1N1 has shown no signs of being any worse than the seasonal common flu.

Re: H1N1 Update - 23 October 2009
I think it is important for people to know where we stand with this virus. I'm sorry for getting ticked off but there was a ******* a few months ago that I wish death upon that wouldnt shut up. It is important for people to understand it, not make it seem small. It might not be very deadly but people need to know it is out there, it is more wide spread than any flu and it can kill. I rather people think before picking their nose after touching a public doorknob than to not think it is worth the consideration at all.
I am not sure if you know this though. It is not so much H1N1 that kills it is the bacteria that follows it. The worse the flu the more bacteria. There was an episode on Dateline NBC about it. Here is also a sad story that might make people realize the danger and how unexpected their life could end. H1N1 kills 13-year-old Toronto boy; dad urges parents to watch kids carefully http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/0...l/flu_boy_dies TORONTO - A grief-stricken father whose otherwise healthy teenage son died suddenly from the swine flu struggled to make sense of the tragedy Tuesday and urged other parents to keep a close eye on their ill children. Paul Frustaglio said it took barely more than a day for the H1N1 flu virus to kill Evan - his "best friend" - who turned 13 last month. "He fell so quickly," Frustaglio told The Canadian Press. "I was watching him. I was there when he died." Evan's death on Monday came on the same day health authorities across Canada began rolling out a vaccination program against H1N1. The teen would not have been considered a priority for the flu shot because he wasn't in a high-risk group. The avid hockey player in Grade 8 began feeling ill over the weekend during a tournament in London, Ont. His symptoms included fever and some vomiting. His dad took him to a walk-in clinic on Sunday afternoon, where he was seen and sent home with advice to take over-the-counter medication. The family felt confident it was a simple case of flu that would soon pass. That seemed to be happening. By Monday morning, his fever had broken and he was no longer nauseated. The family thought he was on the mend. Evan asked to take a bath. Ten minutes later, as his horrified father watched, he suddenly went limp. His father tried CPR as paramedics rushed to the west-end home. "They worked on my son feverishly for over two hours," Frustaglio said. "His heart wasn't responding. The disease had taken over his heart."
