Re: Free stuff!

It doesn't slow down the computer down at all. It just cools it down. Just make sure you know what your doing ;), it can lead to BSOD.

Camstudio isn't a game recorder but a general screen recorder. It can do windowed games but quality's not great.

Pretty sure game cam is a game recorder...

Anyways the best free video game recorder is xfire, it converts and uploads it for you too.

Re: Free stuff!

Comodo is a free one. It's confusing but it's good.
Just make sure you don't install the av in the package. Heard comodo av was bad anyways.

Re: Free stuff!

I use Windows Firewall with MSSE.

I tried downloading that file unlocker tool but it told me there was a trojan, the same one for every site I downloaded from.

I managed to download the old version ok though.

It took so long to get a clean download I forgot why I was downloading it in the first place

The Onion Router:
http://www.torproject.org/

Very good anonymity software, especially when combined with Privoxy. When used correctly it can completely mask all network traffic; someone monitoring your connections would not know what websites you were visiting, nor would someone monitoring a website know if you had visited it. Only downside is low bandwidth and that Google will mark your searches as "potentially fake" and block them.

I have the XP Firewall on, but I rely on my router/modem to do the real work

Tomato.

Tomato is a small, lean and simple replacement firmware for Linksys' WRT54G/GL/GS, Buffalo WHR-G54S/WHR-HP-G54 and other Broadcom-based routers

Re: Free stuff!

Hey all, first thanks for posting up these links, i've downloaded myDefrag, VLC (which i hadn't previously used, but had seen and thought about), SUPER (which i again had seen but couldn't be bothered to search for the download link), Pixie and a couple other small pieces of software from that site.

As for my contribution(i can go into a LOT of detail here, free software is brilliant)...

Firefox - My favourite browser, nuff said.
Notepad++ - My favourite programming text-editor.
Open Office - I used this more in school, but basically an OS office replacement.
Spybot S&D - Decent virus scanner
A-Squared Free - Decent virus scanner, more intense, brilliant at finding trojans
ExtractNow - A file extractor which extracts pretty much anything i've thrown at it (including random disk images)
Superb Batch Renamer - Does what it says on the tin, is brilliant for renaming massive directories full of files with a patterned filename.
MP3 Gain - Levels out the volume over a load of mp3 tracks in an intelligent way.
Showin - Allows you to mess with open application windows on the go. Foundstone also have a load of small software which i find really useful.
Donationcoder.com's Free Software - This is my favourite site for free useful utilities, Tonnes of free utilities some of which are absolutely amazing.
Speedcrunch - A calculator with a brilliant interface.
Phun - A 2d physics sandbox, just a bit of fun really.
AutoHotkey - A simple scripting language that outdoes windows scripting and is useful for creating small utilities.
Inkscape - Open source alternative to Adobe Illustrator.
Blender - OS alt to Maya and other CAD programs

They're the main ones i use on a regular basis, there's absolutely loads though...

I sincerely apologize, I had forgotten this was about personal favourites and not just a general list of freeware.
