Forum Suggestion
I've just discovered Google's "Add a result" option. I don't know if it's always there, or only when there are very few (or no) hits. But I've just discovered it and think it may be useful to Forum Staff, if they are not aware of and/or using it already.
I Googled the text: "insert quickstore cdin da drive n leiter mit beliebiger taste", which is an error message from a User in this thread. The search came back with only two poor results, but then I noticed the "Add a result" option so I tried it. I modified the search text by placing a " " (space) character in between the "d" and the "i" of "...quickstore cdin da drive..." because Google offered it as an alternative to the text I inputed, and it makes more sense to me. The OP of the thread may not have transcibed the error perfectly. So now, when I run a search for the text "insert quickstore cdin da drive n leiter mit beliebiger taste", TSF does not make the hit, but when you take the offered altervative text of "insert quickstore cd in da drive n leiter mit beliebiger taste" (space added) the TSF thread makes it to the top of the list. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...&aq=f&oq=&aqi= Given that a lot of work done here involves oddly named files that may not yet be classified as malware, knowing whether a particular file is randomly named or consistant would be useful. Linking TSF threads to these oddly-named files will not only make it much easier and faster for Security and End Users to identify (and remove) un- and under-documented malware, but also the Google ranking puts TSF's post(s) at the center. Anyone that Google's the text in question will find a TSF thread, and possibly at the top of the list. Everyone that wonders if the file xyz123abc%81244.exe is legitimate or not, will find a TSF thread (if it's been added) as possibly the top hit on Google's ranking, ergo more traffic, more hits and more ka-ching ( $ ). Re: Forum Suggestion
This isn't impressive at all, it's simple logic that was just brought to our attentions, again.
How do you think TSF got so popular (besides it's awesome staff and domain name)? When a user searches any troubleshooting situation, we're always going to be within the first couple of pages. Type "tech support", "techsupport", "tech support forum", "techsupportforum", etc. into Firefox's address bar, WAAAALHAAA, you see TSF. |

Re: Forum Suggestion
Correct, before I discovered TSF, I used to see TSF first on the list everytime I search for an answer to a computer problem.
Even searching 'TJ Belfiore' will show TSF as the second and third matches. (I don't know the first match.)

Re: Forum Suggestion
Whenever I research an issue for a user, I almost always find the same thread I am working on, and others he/she posted in with the same problem.
