About where to post a question.

I know this isn't the place to ask for help, so I'm just asking advice on where I should post a question.

I'm trying to fix a computer for a friend, but I can't get it to POST (that I can tell), so I'm not sure what the trouble is....so I don't know where to post it.

Any ideas??

Sorry for bringing the fun and games to a pause, please don't stop on my account.

Allo bdraft

Always happy to take a break from the fun, to help out

You'd be best off posting your question in the 'Hardware Support' section - As to which bit, depends on the fault

Do the hard-drives spin up, i.e. does the little HDD light on the front panel flicker? Can you get into the BIOS at all? How old is the PC?, If more than about 3-4 years, it could be the onboard battery is dead/dying and the BIOS needs to be reset, to boot up.

Depending on those, your question would go in either the 'RAM and power supply support' or Motherboards, BIOS and CPU support'

I hope that helps

Re: About where to post a question.

The computer is maybe 2 years old. HP Pavillon s7700n....

Had the PS fan replaced in it about a year ago.

I can't tell if the drive spins up or not....I don't see a seprate HDD light. Power button lights up. PS fan sounds a bit slow and a bit like it's making contact with something (sounds like playing cards in bicycle spokes). Screen doesn't come up at all.

The preiferials are good, I just un-plugged them from the back of my system and plugged them in the back of the one I'm trying to fix.

I'm probably going to have to start yanking things out so I can get in and start re-seating stuff....I just hated to do that in that tiny thing.

I'm going to try printing off the disassembly instructions....if I can ever get my behemoth of a printer going. I think I made a mistake getting a networked printer....it prints fast and looks good, when you can get it to working.

thank you, you have given me something to think about....

thank you for your time;

Re: About where to post a question.

Indeed, it's great to help out anyways.

Try troubleshooting first and isolate the problem. There's soooo many factors why a computer won't boot up or whatever the problem is. If you think it's a hardware failure then try to identify which one it is and post the trouble in Hardware Section like HD, RAM, PSU, Video Card etc.. and if you think it is software issue and you're running windows xp you can go to windows xp support so that people can take a look at what is going on. =)

Hope this helps too.
