Re: NASA's mission to bomb the Moon

Quote:
Though the Moon mostly a dry airless desert, they believe ice could be trapped in crater shadows near the south pole which never receive any sunlight. If so it could provide vital supplies for a manned moonbase.
Did anybody read to that bit???

I think it's brilliant. It's about time we started making more progress into space.

Re: NASA's mission to bomb the Moon

I read to that part, but you have to remember that if they are off just a bit it could potentially mean no more mr moon and/or a horrible cloud of debris out there, which wouldn't be cool :/ all that aside, they could have spent all of that money on something more useful instead of just blowing a hole in the moon to see is there's any ice

Re: NASA's mission to bomb the Moon

Isn't this kinda stupid? We are shootin missiles in to space and what happens if something goes wrong and it misses the moon and it begins to orbit earth or collides in to a small planet and shatters it? Missiles in to space = dumb & dangerous.

Now if it is determined life can survive somehow up there than there will be another war for domination, lol. Wonderful.

Re: NASA's mission to bomb the Moon

Before we look for intelligence in space we should first find it here on Earth.

Re: NASA's mission to bomb the Moon

I think everyone needs to keep in mind just how big the moon is - it's more than 3,000 kilometres wide (more than 2,000 miles). One little missile is not going to destroy it, nor could a missile destroy a "small planet". We're not even dealing with nuclear weapons here. Besdies, there are no "small planets" anywhere near the moon. If the missile missed, the most likely result is that it would miss everything else as well, and just head out into space, in which case it would literally have so far to travel before finding anything that we would be able to develop spaceships and catch up to it before it did any damage.

Well a moon base is exciting. I just cannot wait till men land on Mars. It will be on TV in HD..or whatever is in the future.

The diameter of the moon = 3474.8 kilometers (about 2160 miles)

Addendum: Oh, see that you corrected it....thanks!

Re: NASA's mission to bomb the Moon

we probably have a better chance at having a manned base on mars instead of the moon, yay for atmospheres?

Re: NASA's mission to bomb the Moon

The atmosphere on Mars is of no use - it's nowhere near thick enough to support life. Regardless of that though, having a moon base gives us better access to Mars. The list of reasons why having a moon base is a good thing is very long - you should look into it.

Re: NASA's mission to bomb the Moon

It's all very well firing missiles into the moon, but who picks up the tab when the Moonlings sue us for damages???

If they do hit it, couldn't that be taken as an 'Act of War'?
