Re: Pre order windows 7
HP is offering free windows 7 upgrade cds for people that purchase a unit with vista home premium and up and purchased on or after June 26 2009. You can register for it already but the cd wont ship until Windows 7 is officially released.
Note: This is provided by a 3rd party company but you must register for it here: www.hp.com/go/windows7 Firefox seems to connect better for some reason than IE7

Re: Pre order windows 7
I think Mc's point is he wishes they'd ship a full version not an upgrade.
Two comments: First: If its a totally new OS - as advertized - how can there be an "Upgrade"? So either Win7 is just another version of Vista or its a full version of a totally new OS and all the upgrade does is check your comp for an existing copy of Vista. Second: HP is doing this so people don't stop buying PC's waiting for 7 to be released. OK, I can understand that but I don't think it will convince many buyers. Plus most of us have come to realize that it makes sense to wait a few months or more after intial release before buying anything MS makes.

Re: Pre order windows 7
Yustr as a tech to tech you would be correct people would wait but as an average buyer, well they don't even know there is a Windows 7 coming out. This is fact. I talk with average HP users 8 hours a day 5 days a week.
And ofcourse it is to help keep buyers buying, that is just business sense. I am sure other pc venders are doing the same. About the upgrade: When Vista was released HP offered the same upgrade from XP to Vista before Vista was released. Vista is not an XP version. As for the upgrade itself, Windows 7 is very similar to Vista and most Vista drivers will work on windows 7. I imagine programs will work properly too if they worked on Vista. Full versions are always the best option but very very expensive compared to upgrade cds.
