14-year-old hit by 30,000 mph space meteorite

A schoolboy has survived a direct hit by a meteorite after it fell to earth at 30,000mph.

Gerrit Blank, 14, was on his way to school when he saw "ball of light" heading straight towards him from the sky.

A red hot, pea-sized piece of rock then hit his hand before bouncing off and causing a foot wide crater in the ground.

Thats wicked... to survive a meteor strike at all... but to have it bounce off of you to make a crater is phenomenal...

Lousy wording but I suppose that they had to attract our attention somehow .. NO WAY it HIT him and BOUNCED OFF .. what he has, had to be where it whistled across his hand, otherwise that foot wide crater would have contained his remains too!

Lucky lad .. came within a hairs whisker of being fried alive

Hmmm, bit sceptical here. If it hit his hand then it would have took his hand with him.

It hit his hand... if it did, there would be hole in his hand. Most likely it grazed his hand. That would explain the 3 inch scar. Afterall grazing his hand still counts as hit right

considering the speed that that "meteorite" must have been travelling, it must have been the "Hot Air" surrounding the "meteorite" that burnt his hand rather than a direct hit .. any closer and consider what sort of affect & skid mark would have occurred due to the heat from a glowing red hot ember on nerves and body tissue ??
As for being thrown it was more likely the explosive impact as it made the crater.

That kids must have had his guardian angel on RED ALERT ..
