Was in a Tornado today

Today, we had a huge wall cloud move over our town and it brought some serious rotation in the clouds with it. We were driving to a store and the storm started to get pretty bad. Next thing, we were sitting at the stop lights and the wind came from no where. Debris, dirt and generally anything loose, started spinning across the road and small tree's started bending over. Looked up at the sky and loads of rotation in the sky with funnels forming and to the left, about maybe half a mile away was a cloud lowering to the ground. The wife and baby got to shelter in the store. I stayed out in the car park to watch, winds became so strong, i thought I was in a tornado. The sirens then went off, and I had to run for shelter.

It was intense. No idea, if a tornado actually touched fully down, but there was severe winds with what seemed like rotation on the ground. Our car was shaken pretty bad at one point. Felt like a large force trying to stop it from turning the corner. The wheel felt heavy ( if that makes sense ).
A few small tree's in town were damaged and some debris around, but no houses damaged.
Nobody hurt, which is good. Seems maybe she was an F0 trying to form. I do not know.

Re: Was in a Tornado today

During June to August, we normally get around one or two Tornado watches per week. We have a chance of Tornadoes today. Not often we get an actual Tornado in our area though. We had maybe 2 last year in this area. We do however, get alot of storms moving over, where you can see the rotation and we have seen tons of funnel clouds. They do not normally touch down here.

Re: Was in a Tornado today

Had a similar experience living in IN. No rotation but very strong micro-bursts, green wall clouds. Felled hundreds of trees throughout the county. I was just getting to a large warehouse type store. I had to decide to make a run for it or stay in the car. I stayed cause 1: I'm an idiot and wanted to observe 2: I didn't think the metal sided building provided much additional protection and 3: I wanted to meet the Glinda, the Good Witch of the North.
