Re: Missing link
To begin a friendly discussion, I can't get my head round the argument between Science and Religion, on this. I'm referring mainly to Christianity, as I'm not sure what the other faith's views are. (By the way, I was born a 'Roman Catholic', but now consider myself more of a 'Pagan' or 'Wiccan')
Christianity defeats me - They can accept that parts of the Bible are examples and parables, but then insist that other parts are word-for-word 'Absolute Truth'. Sorry folks, this just seems illogical to me. The way I see it, Darwin's Theories (and all other sciences) just help to demonstrate the wonder of 'God's' (by whatever name) imagination, when he created everything. I'd like to present a question/theory to anyone - The Bible says that the world was created in 7 days, and that's the main argument against Darwin etc. OK, It's generally accepted that God is eternal and infinite, therefore: Was the world created in 7 'Earth' days or 7 of God's days? With all respect to God, he's be on a totally different timescale to us mere mortals.

Re: Missing link
Please, I haven't read any philosophy/theology book in years, most of this is just what I've wondered about or sorta figured out for myself, over the years .As my Dad put it, when he was alive: You don't get an instruction manual, when you come into this world - All you can do is keep an open mind about everything and hope something makes sense, when you go out again. I believe that all the various faiths and religions have a kernel of truth at the very centre, but it's so buried in rituals and secrecy, it could take several lifetimes to suss it all out. Anyway, back to the topic - It could well be one of the links in human development, I saw the BBC documentary about it and there's a lot of similarities in the skeleton construction. Certain bones that are only present in humans, and so on.One of the things that irritates me with the media coverage of stuff like this, is that they present it as if there's only 1 unknown link between apes/chimps/whatever and the beginnings of 'modern man', whereas logically it's a chain of links and 'Ida' is somewhere in the 1st couple of yards.

Re: Missing link
Let's not open the religion discussion - we tried that a few weeks back over in the Political Scene and it didn't work out.
Regarding Ida; she's one of a number of important splits. Another important one is when the branch that leads to Homo split from the branches that lead to the other great apes, Gorillas, Chimps and Orangutans? That happened about 8 million years ago. There are precious few fossils from that far back.

Re: Missing link
I once saw something on discovery or history, or animal about a dragon being unearthed, real back then. However, I don't know if its real I never saw it in an newspaper but long story short, found it in a cave frozen they did test they said it breathed fire by eating rocks and something in salivia ignite it.I will see if I can post a video link, should be on discovery.com or something.
http://dragonsinn.net/p-day_icedragon.htm that's something. http://animal.discovery.com/videos/d...gons-real.html Last edited by Zealex; 06-15-2009 at 01:23 PM. |

Re: Missing link
I saw that (or something extremely similar) on one of the BBC documentaries, some years ago, and it was very well done and extremely plausible (I think I might still have the video kicking around somewhere - Unfortunately though:

Still, when you consider that despite all the archaeology etc. that's been done, we're still only scratching in the dust, compared to what's miles below the Earth's surface.

Re: Missing link
I got a warning for beating on a bible thumper in the political scene.
![]() I believe solely in evolution but I do get what you're saying about how "god days" are probably on a whole different life cycle and just look at how many other planets he would have had to make. I think he made the planets and won the lottery so he went into retirement. |
