A place for my head.
I was thinking about all that I truly love and care about, and what makes me just "escape" from things that bother me, and make me just want to be... away.
Do you guys have any places that you can go to, to just get away from all the hassles of everyday life; be in a place, mental, book, music, person, etc? I've always found that the following really help me cope with this issue : Studio Ghibli Films : Ever since I was little, I've loved them all - Hayao Miyazaki is literally a genius when it comes to manipulating your mind and making you intoxicated with his entertaining plots be it romance or thriller. I've always found that he's trying to make you break away from everything when watching his films (this goes the same for all of Studio Ghibli films and it's directors) and just be inside the film, helping the main character or possibly being the main character. One that comes to mind is Porco Rosso - the setting for that film was like nothing I've ever seen before in my life, and makes me seriously wish I was born in the 1900's (as I truthfully do) and be back in Italy and fly planes (I'm afraid of heights). The music in the films are also very emotional and get to me - almost making me cry. I'm a sucker for a good piece of music, especially ones done by Joe Hisaishi. A great piece of music not done by Joe Hisaishi but in a Studio Ghilbi film (not directed by Hayao Miyazaki) is from Grave of Fireflies (I cried hard at the end of this movie); YouTube - Home Sweet Home - Grave of the Fireflies - I cry every time I here this song. The Beatles Music : It really takes skill to make you forget about everything that's going on and just turn on a Beatles song and just relax - they did this and they did it for every single one of their songs - both beautiful and sophisticated. Programming : I'm a programmer and when you're programming - you literally forgot about everything else and just CHILL. Some secrets of mine - I wish I was born in 1900's over in Italy - I swear to god - I'd kill for this. I don't like the world today. It's too.. sad.

Re: A place for my head.
Porco Rosso is my favourite of the Ghibli films too
![]() I can lose myself in music, films or books but my most powerful therapy is the ocean - don't even have to get in it (though that's the preferred option - at 55 I still surf and not a mal) just as long as I can sit and watch it I'm fine - all its moods: huge and pounding, flat and windswept, all give me a sense of peace and all is well with the world

Re: A place for my head.
I too don't like heights .. I'm ok climbing as long as I have something to hold on to but after that ...
I remember only too well, back in 1968 at the age of 16, going to Pisa and the leaning tower .. went to the top and also looked out over the side, must have been just before the top. There were, if I remember correctly, some rope hand rails around the walls of the tower where you could walk the circumference, but there were no rails at the outer edge just the occasional columns. In order to take a look over the edge I went down on my stomach at the doorway and crawled on my belly to the edge to take photo's.

My favouritest place for total solitude is the Yorkshire Dales**, although any bit of countryside, in which not a single person is in sight, will do. Any and all wildlife is welcome to join me, but no humans
![]() ** - If you've ever seen any of the 'Last Of The Summer Wine' or 'All Creatures Great And Small' series, that's my countryside

I'm the one just walking over the hill, in the very distance, with a dog
