Save the Moon

According to an article at Space.com, Eath's moon is slowly leaving Earth to become its own planet. We cannot let that happen. Imagine generations of young people growing up thinking that "Moon" is just a type of pie treat or a member of The Who. Imagine a world without tides: what would we call our leading brand of laundry detergent? Imagine a world where crazy people have nothing to stare at at night. Imagine a world completely free from warewolves. Sounds pretty boring to me. Join me in urging the moon to stay, for a better world, a better solar system, and a better tomorrow.

Re: Save the Moon

and exactly where would that leave us, ie the Earth ... what would happen to the earth if such a possibility was reality .. in order for the moon to leave the earths gravity surely something must be exerting a new gravitational force for that to happen .. and if we lost the moon would that not upset the equilibrium in the solar system ...

I have heard / read that the solar system / universe is a very finely tuned mechanism and that any one minute change in it would have resulted in no system ..

and how are we to save the moon from freeing itself .. grappling hooks ?? retro rockets, creating another moon artificially, so that we can let the old one wander into space on it's own new course

Nah. Just graze. Not a bad life, actually. Except mating season. Then I wake up with a killer headache, bark in my teeth, and the feeling of oh so cheapness...

Re: Save the Moon

judging by what happens to certain beings while we do have a moon, maybe we'd be better off without one

Re: Save the Moon

coming back to the point ..

moon leaving earths orbit .. means earth's spin must be slowing down. If it stops suddenly will we all fly off ???

Re: Save the Moon

So at last they'll repeal the 'Law of Gravity'!

Earth is likely to not be slowing down, but the moon is - The slower it moves, the further out is the orbit.

the question is, is the moon really moving away or is the earth moving away from the moon.

Re: Save the Moon

send up the " I don't want to be employed" along with government official with a lot of BIG paddles .. government officials create a lot of hot air .. that should get the moon orbiting faster .. perhaps not all of them or it might start to spin faster and we'd crash
