Hpc Security Applications & Tech

This is my newest class. Security Applications and Technology. I figured I'd be learning about security; firewalls, antivirus, etc...

Apparently, first, we learn how to "hack". In fact our first project is, setup a computer, then hack into it. Does this seem odd to anyone else? Although I guess his theory of "you can't defend against an attack unless you know how they are going to attack" has some validity.

Oh not to mention we "get" to sign a waiver saying we won't use this information to hack into other computers, but only for defending against would be attackers.

I've heard of a few classes doing this. I've also heard of some doing background checks before you are acepted into class.

Well I guess I passed the background check?

So far we just learned basic stuff, like nslookup, nmap, and whois...stuff I already knew.

You ought to hack into the prof's computer................ you'll get an A.
Or expelled.
