Broadband monthly costs in the UK

I'm in the UK and it seems that compared to some other European countries the technology around broadband is being rolled out slowly here so as to keep the prices for BB connections that offer moderate speeds high.

For example, for a 512 ADSL connection with no bandwidth caps the average monthly charge is between £20 to £25, which is around $40. This is on top of the telephone line rental and call charges.

Getting connected up for an ADSL service can also take up to 4 weeks.

How does that compare to prices in the US?
