circuit city

it is closing all stores

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090116/...ity_bankruptcy

Quote:
Circuit City Stores Inc., the nation's second-biggest consumer electronics retailer, said Friday it had run out of options and will be forced to liquidate its 567 U.S. stores. The closures could send another 30,000 people into the ranks of the unemployed.
if you have gift cards, better use them now!!!

Re: circuit city

There should be no problems with the original factory warranties on products bought from CC. There may be problems with service contracts bought from CC, depending on who was to furnish the service.

There goes their website:

Circuit City would like to thank all of the customers who have shopped with us over the past 60 years. Unfortunately, we announced on January 16, 2009, that we are going out of business.

Please check back later for updates about the status of our website. In the meantime, we hope the information below will help answer most of your questions.

Re: circuit city

I,for one will NOT miss them. The store closest to me is 20+ miles away. After driving that far, a little help would be appreciated.
Instead, the staff all walk around ignoring you. When you did get their attention, they say they will be right with you, then goes over and just starts BSing with another member. You can hear them talking and it is not about business.
Finally after 1/2 hour( if you wait that long) someone MAY come over acting like he is doing you the greatest favor possible by even talking to you.
I say "Good Riddance" not good bye.

Re: circuit city

Customer service is the same here in florida. When you went inside
they would pounce on you, hoping for a sale on a big ticket item.
But when they found out you were there for computer part they would
avoid you like the plague. There floor people really didnt know anything
about tech items. If they did they sure didnt show it.
Could be why they are going down the tubes, people remember that.
One thing about them though, they usually beat out best buy on
pc parts, here in florida that is.,
I will kind of miss the competition...

Re: circuit city

For those of you with extended warranties, these will NOT be voided by the closure of Circuit City:

Quote:
Are Circuit City's extended warranties affected by the liquidation?
No. Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans® (extended warranties) have been backed by third-party independent companies for more than 15 years and as a result, are not impacted by Circuit City's closing.
Currently, all Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans are fully backed by the Assurant Solutions companies. Assurant Solutions operates as Federal Warranty Service Corporation, Sureway, Inc., and United Service Protection, Inc. Assurant Solutions is part of Assurant, Inc. (NYSE: AIZ), and its extended service contacts are backed by an Assurant insurance subsidiary rated A "Excellent" by A.M. Best Co.

They are keeping their Canadian operations open, so if you need something you can always come up here :)

Re: circuit city

Too bad "The Source" by Circuit City in Canada is owned by different entity. I was hoping it would also go under so that Radio Shack would come back. (Since they bought out Radio Shack Canada)

Actual Source (CC) employee [they use the same training materials]:

Lin-nuks? You mean Lynx!

She seemed so happy to have figured that out, that I didn't want to correct her.

Re: circuit city

Holy crap! I never thought this would be that bad. Learning about the Great Depression at school makes that seem a lot worse than what we're through currently, until you get news like this that makes you realize that this is just as bad.

Hey, at least they're not closing their Canadian operations! I wonder if it'll just become "The Source", dropping the "by Circuit City" part?

DJ Specs, I haven't seen you around here. Hello from a fellow Vancouverite (well, Surrey's close enough)!

Re: circuit city

Awesome, 3 people here from the Vancouver area!

We really are entering an economic depression. It'll probably just be a matter of time before other major companies start shutting their doors.
